I have an inbuilt microphone on windows vista, acer 5735 laptop. i am wanting to show my webcam but turn off the microphone, it automatically asks to acsess both webcam and microphone and no option on the webchat to turn it off so is it possible to disable it in settings/control panel etc( i have had a look but cannot find where to do it) and then turn it back on again later.

HI.

This may be long winded but it will work.

Right click your volume speaker icon and select recording devices.

In the pop up box will be all available sources that can be enabled , disabled ,set as default.

Just click the mic icon and select disable.

When you need to enable it again , go back and enable it.

If the icon disappears just right click in the pop up box and tick "show disabled devices".

If there's no Mute choice anywhere, look in Control Panel/Sounds to disable the mic or turn its volume down.

when your webcam is on, right click the live video of you and there should be a list of options, one to turn off the volume :)
