How fast is your Internet? You can have the fastest computer in the world but still have slow downloads and laggy games. When you say you have wireless internet, does that mean you use a router, or does it mean you have something like Verizon wireless? If the latter is the case, that type of Internet gets terrible latency in online games and makes them lag. If you want to play your games, consider cable or DSL. In any case, don't run P2P apps or run torrent software while playing your games.

Windows Vista has a new feature called Windows Experience that gives your computer a score. The higher the score, the faster your computer will be. To find out your score, click on Start, and right click on Computer and select Properties. Now click "windows experience index" It rates things like how fast your CPU is, how much memory you have and rates your graphics processor and hard drive speed. From here you can tell what needs to be upgraded.

A good and cheap way to make your overall computer faster is to add more RAM. A good place to find out which type you should buy is to go to http://www.crucial.com and click "scan my system." This will tell you how much RAM you have as well as how much your computer can support and which type you should buy. If you don't know how to install RAM, there are a lot of videos on youtube that show you how.

EDIT: When you join servers in your online games, they usually list the latency of the server, the lower the number, the less the game will lag. Never join a server with a latency (or ping) of over 100.

well, there is lots of things you can do to make your computer / internet faster. However, they are completely unrelated, so I will start with ways on making your PC run faster. Ok

Try defragging it. DO it several times the first time you do it, then every fortnight from now on. This will decrease small, unusable disk space, therefore freeing up the computers drive / s.

Buy more RAM. The average amount of RAM for a PC at the moment is 2GB. I am using 4GB. RAM is relatively inexpensive, and for laptops, $170 should see you with at least 2GB RAM.

Make sure you have at least 15% of your hard drive free. Programs can then use the space and shift files around without having to run out, or run low on disk space.

The most effective, and free method of boosting your computers speed is by "formatting" the hard drive. This will erase EVERYTHING off your hard drive, so make sure you backup programs and files you want befre you do it. How do you do it? Simply put the Microsoft Windows Vista DVD into your computers CD/DVD drive, and it will give an option of formatting the drive. Select the option of "format drive to entire partition". Once this is complete, windows will re-install iteslf again. Then you will start from scratch. Much faster. As time progresses, it will slow again. I, personally defrag my computer every fortnight, and format the hard drive every 6 months or so. I just did it last week, so its nice and fast again :-).

And, by the way, Service pack 1 is now available for download for Vista, that will decrease freezing as well. I think vista is pathetic. It is year 2009, yet the worlds biggest computing company can't even release an operating system that doesn't freeze at least once every hour.

Now, for internet.

Obviously, purchasing a faster type of internet is going to boost your internet speed. And there isn't much you can do to change internet speed. Having a good modem will be an improvement. I don't know what are the best modems, sorry, but maybe try googling it and find out?

Also, since you are on a wireless network, if other people are using the internet on the network, your connection will be slowed as the port will be shared.

Keep the laptop close to the access point for the network, so you have 100% connectivity, and therefore 100% possible speed. Um, when downloading, use torrent files, rather than typical download files you use through limewire, etc. Torrents can be found under sites such as btjunkie.com, and downloaded through a torrent host, such as bitcomet. (bitcomet.com will give a free, legal download).

Also, try switching internet browsers. Internet explorer is ****. it freezer non-stop and is slower than mozilla or oprah. Personally, think Opera is the best. It rarely freezes, and when it does It fixes itself up quickly.

And slow gaming is also because of slow internet connection.

Other than that, there is no ways to speed up computing processes. Hope i helped.. btw what country you from???

its not always the internet that causes the lag... you need to supply us with you comp specs e.g RAM

but if the actual computer is lagging chances are you need more RAM for vista you need atleast 2GB

and the interent will be slow if you havnt paid for a fast connection. Im running a 10MB connection and it works fine. Quiet alot of people are still on 2MB though which is slower but will cost you to upgrade.

And on the games issue, games can lag for various reasons sometimes its computer related e.g do you have the right specs to run the game and also it could be internet related

If your using limewire make sure your not sharing any files, if you are then other people are connecting to you computer eating up your bandwidth. if you are then go to the "tools" menu and choose options. There is an option on the left hand side called Sharing. From there you can UNshare any folders. also make sure not to download more than a few files at once. there more items you download at once the more bandwidth you are using and that would probably explain the slow download speeds. also when you close out of limewire make sure you check the lower right side of your startbar for the limewire icon. if it is still there then you are still connected. right click it and and choose exit. even if the limewire window is gone it is still running in the background.

Oh, thats easy. Make a recovery disk. Once that is successfully made, delete the recovery memory. My computer has that same problem. If you need help makeing a recovery disk go to your start menu, then type (recovery) in your search bar. If you follow the dirrections on the program, you should be just fine.

to add to that, its better to either use an external hardrive to backup your computer or a DVD. its a lot of memory that gets put onto these disks.

try using a program called `full speed` that will make ur net faster,as for ur downloads,u would have 2 contact ur isp 2 have them increase ur speed, for ur games,it would b best is u wasn`t connected 2 the internet, another good program is ` boost windows 2009` it is vista compatable, and use `tcp optimizer` 2 tweak ur system, its free, heres the link

Make sure you don't have too many people using the connection at the same time.

If you're using IE (internet explorer), then you might want to consider something like firefox (mozilla.com).

Maybe you need a faster internet connection or maybe your wiring is bad...?

I used to have wireless but ti was too slow so we changed back to wire-not-less (whatever you know what i mean!)
