windows media player error message {Best Answerer 10points?

Question

when i try to play my dvd or video clips using windows media player, error says 'cannot play,not compatible format,someone please tell me what i need to do to solve this issue,is it some codec particular i need or what,and if so what is a free site to download,new to this,please help

Hi there and welcome.

Yes you need to download a plug-in, by doing this you will be able to watch DVD with WMP. Follow the link i provide and that's it. The plug-in is called DVD Decoder (MPEG-2 Decoder) Plug-in. From Microsoft website so the plug-in is trustworthy.

All video clips have an extension code. For example if you have a clip that you have downloaded from YouTube, you need to download onto your computer another free player such as Real Player which can handle the extension (.flv). There are also some excellent converter downloads which you can get free which will change the extension on the file. One of these is called VLC Media Player/converter. Before any of this though, you can try by right clicking the file, and on the drop menu left click on 'open with...' left click on 'browse' and select a program that you feel may work.

look in initiate>administration Panel>gadget>gadget supervisor> and you will see a gadget tree. look for Yellow or crimson flags on the tree. they many times propose lacking or broken drivers. while you're lacking motherboard drivers, circulate to Asus. while you're lacking video drivers, circulate to Sapphire or AMD and acquire/installation. No flags capacity each thing is sweet. If no flags are got here upon, circulate to start>administration Panel>Sound> and be certain you have the proper sound output gadget set as default, i.e. audio gadget, headset, and etc.
