How to restore forgotten password in Linux Suse Enterprise Desktop?

So I've bought yesterday a computer and today I'll change it's OS from Linux to Windows, but I can't remember my password, which was really short. I've seen a lot of articles about recovering password in Ubuntu, Suse enterprise server, but they are too confusing. I'm totally not good in Linux, so it made a lot more difficult to understand how to recover a password. I went on Recovery mode, pressed esc, then in new window I pressed 'e' on recovery command, then 'e' on kernel, typed 'single', pressed esc and 'b', but then after some command lines it asks me do I want to start system recovery and I pick no, then after some time it reboots and still nothing. Any help appreciated.

If you are not worried about the data on the harddrive, just put in the Windows CD / DVD and boot off it.



During the install process delete all the Linux partitions and reformat the hard drive then proceed with the Windows install.



If you want to access the Suse linux OS do the following steps. No need for any CD or recovery mode.



Power on Machine

When linux boot menu comes press F2

In the Boot Option Type init=/bin/sh

A console will come

Type mount -a



If you want to change the root password :

Type passwd

Change password

reboot



You can now login as user : root

Using the password you just set.



If you want to reset a user password rather than root, use: passwd myuser (Where my user is your user name)
