My grandmother wanted some music on her computer so I tried to download some from her CD's. The problem is, the CD-ROM door won't open. When I press the button nothing happens. No beeps. No pop ups. No lights. Nothing.

Can anyone help me?

I can think of a bunch of reasons. Might be good to check it in the following order

1. There is a typically a small hole on the front panel of the CDROM drive. There is a tiny eject button within which allows for manually/forcefully ejecting the CD. Use a pin to pierce this hole, you might or might not feel like you are depressing a button. Keep the power on when doing it and the CD drive should pop out.

2. OR The cdrom drive might be disabled in the PC bios. When booting up the PC, enter the BIOS/setup (typically by hitting F2 or DEL). The menu/options will vary depending on the BIOS maker/version. But look for Secondary IDE, if it reads disabled enable it.

3. OR the cdrom drive might not be connected to a power cable. If the cdrom drive LED does not glow every(specifically momentarily glow during PC boot), this might be likely. This would require that you open the case and verify that the power adapter (typically 4 pins but may depend on drive) is firmly pushed in. Take Care to unplug the PC and ground yourself against static before doing this as you might hurt yourself and fry an important components or two in the process. Do it only if you are familiar with the steps or can search and follow a detailed video on youtube.

Not sure exactly what your problem is, however if you have a metal paper clip, look at your Cd-Rom drive and you will see a little hole about the size of the diameter of a paper clip. Straighten out an end of the paper clip so that it sticks out like a pin. carefully insert that pin end of the paper clip into the hole 90 degrees to the drive cover, as straight as possible. Slowly push it in and be prepared for the drive door to open pushing up against your fingers. Allow it to open and out comes your drive. It works in place of a defective button. Good luck

Hi.

The button may have failed .

Windows start key > Computer >Right click CD Drive > Eject.

If you have a tray type CD drive there may be a small hole in to you may place the end of a paper clip to release the drive when your computer is powered up.

Check the connecting wires as the drive may have no power.

If your Grandmom user :

First check if your CD ROM powered properly.

Unplug and re plug power jack.

Inside CPU it is highly possible there is an extra power cord. Replace it with existing one.

Otherwise replace your CD-ROM.

Or, Download CD's in another computer then transfer using portable storage (USB removable disk, USB HDD, or using LAN)

hope it will solve you problem

It might be jammed or is the thing plugged in to an electricity supply or a lead undone or something like that? check everything out from the start.
