Many (most?) newer graphics cards support dual monitors. To go beyond two monitors you usually have to go with more than one graphics card and use them in SLi or Crossfire mode. That said, for two monitors, just about any computer with a powerful enough power supply and the right bus slot available should do the trick. That can be anything from an old Pentium 4 system all the way up to a top of the line 16 core beast of a gaming computer. The difference comes with what you want to USE the computer for.

If you're talking live rendering (whether for video production or video games) I'd recommend at least a dual core AMD Phenom II running at around 3 gHz with about 4 gigs of RAM and either a fast hard drive or a raid array of slow ones. You should be able to put together the majority of your new system for around $500 if you're a thrifty shopper and wait for deals on a site like www.newegg.com. If you want something pre-built that will do just about anything at a reasonable price I'd try something like this:

If you are gonna use a destop for sure, you need to buy a video card to connect to multiple screens.

But if you can Laptop, then it already comes with a secondary display port. You can have 2 displays without any additional hardware / software.

Btw the default Intel graphics driver supports multiple screens :)

The laptop I have now can hook up to a tv and a seperate monitor no problem. I say this because I have an HDMI port, 3 usb ports and a VGA port...my dad has cords I use to link to his lcd tv for usb ports, and I have plugged in a seperate monitor for kicks. Any computer should be able to at least hook up to a seperate monitor even if its just one

Two monitors (one, if you’re setting up a laptop), which may be flat-panel LCD monitors or CRT monitors or one of each—it doesn’t matter. You can even use a TV screen as a monitor. If you’re going to buy a monitor, there are many points to consider in addition to the price. For example, picture quality, screen size, screen resolution, compatibility with your computer port, higher contrast ratio, and richness of color are some of the most important factors.

Although we refer to two monitors in this article, you can use more than two as long as you have the connectors available on your computer.

Two monitor cables to connect the monitors to the computer (one for a laptop). These need to match the connection types available on your computer.

A monitor connection on your computer for each monitor you want to connect. These may be Digital Visual Interface (DVI) connectors, Video Graphics Array (VGA) connectors, HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) connectors, or S-Video connectors for using your TV as a monitor. The connections will need to match the monitor cables. These ports connect to video cards in your computer. They are usually located on the back of your desktop computer and on the side or back of your laptop computer.

If you don’t have the connectors you need for your monitors, you can install a video adapter to change the connector type, or, if you’re using a desktop computer, you can replace your video card or install additional cards. This involves opening your computer, so you may want to seek assistance from a local computer retailer or watch this video for help to do it yourself.
