I got a new laptop that is supposed to have Windows Vista Service pack 1 and this is my first experience with Vista.

I have looked online everywhere and the only thing that I can find is how to restore your recycling bin icon if you accidently delete it.

The problem that I have is that I have two Mpeg files in the recycling bin that I am trying to delete but whenever I click on empty the recycling bin a a pop up type screen comes up and says that it is deleting the items of the recycling bin but it will say that for hours and it dosen't delete it.

The two files are 0 Kb's

I tried doing it manually and that does the same thing.

Also I have to restart my computer every time that I try because I can't even get back into the recycling bin after I try to delete those two items.

I try to delete the items (either separately or together, either manually or through the empty recycling bin) and the pop up comes up, I exit after 5 minutes, and then I try to go back in but can't

yea. Vista can be a pain. Since the two files are 0 KB's, I have a suspicion that the files are corrupted. The corruption is normally cause by a hard drive miss-write information or a virus changing the file.

If you cannot use your bin, then you don't have to use it. There is an option for you to delete files in the future without sending it to the bin first.

The one sure way to delete the two files is completely is by formatting the laptop and re-install it with a Vista CD.

It sounds like you have some broken files. They still have a title, and probably a sector list (tells where the file SHOULD be located), but the file contents have already been deleted.

When the system looks for the contents and can't find them it locks-up. Unfortunately I don't know how to remove the titles, all I can suggest is to try restoring the files and see what happens (they may disappear, or be restored enough to re-delete).

Go to:

Computer (either on the desktop or start menu).

Right-click Desktop (at the top of the folder list on the left side)

Click the link "Change Desktop Icons" in the left-hand column

maximum suitable click on the Recycle Bin and click on Empty Recycle Bin to delete each and every thing in it. in case you p.c. to delete a particular report, merely double click on the icon then locate the report(s) you p.c. to delete and right click on them, then click on "Delete"
