Alright so what I have:

2007 Xbox360 Arcade 20gb hardrive
16gb USB

I have had two copies of GTAV and both of them are crashing. I have only installed disc 1 never disc 2.

I have cleared cache, marketplace data, hard reset, everything.

I also have deleted everything except GTA V so I would have ample space.

I have installed GTA V just on the USB..crash... just the HDD.... Crash.

No games ever crash on this Xbox360

The only thing I can think of is that my memory is like 14gb for my HDD and 16gb for my USB... dont have 16gb available for one source.

Rockstar blames Microsoft and Microsoft blames Rockstar. Been on the phone tweeted everything.

First of all, you'll probably want it to be on the hard drive as I suspect the USB will be harder for the Xbox to detect on the regular. Additionally, you'll likely want to go through and delete some stuff you don't need anymore like installed games you no longer play. Every little bit of extra hard drive space helps.

Now, if sounds like you've hit all of the regular stuff. Unfortunately this is an issue that mainly is happening with older X-Boxes like the Arcade. Some googling brought me to these step by step instructions on how to potentially fix it. Unfortunately until they patch it this would be your best, if not only bet:

How to fix the "GTA 5" crashing bugs on older Xbox 360 consoles

1. Delete "GTA 5"

2. Clear your Xbox 360 system cache three times

3. Delete marketplace data from storage system items

4. Unplug your Xbox 360

5. Plug your Xbox 360 back in after three minutes

6. Install "GTA 5" Disc 1

7. Turn off your Xbox 360

8. Turn your Xbox 360 back on

9. Install "GTA 5" Disc 2

10. Start playing "GTA 5" again

I have tried everything that was posted by Xbox and Rockstar. I finally got mine to work by cleaning the optical drive lens with Disk Doctor lens cleaning disk. After that I have had no problems. If anyone is having this issue definitely clean the lens. Obviously if every other game works fine then its not the hard drive, then I thought well maybe its the disk, if it were the disk then all consoles would have this problem, then finally when I heard it was only the older consoles having trouble I thought what do old consoles have in common. Dirt! Trust me this works. Rockstar you can thank me Later!

i work at game stop and was wondering the same thing. i took my disk out of the drive to get a better look and noticed a little dent on the middle ring of the disk. a couple days later a costumer came in and complained and when i looked at his disk i noticed a dent on the ring. so you will have to get a new disk, or install disk one to a hdd and then go to a red box get disk 2, and install it to a usb. it should work, i haven't had any problems after that.
