hello, today i acessed my computer.first thing that i found strange was that my scroll on the mouse was zomming instead of going up and down the pages.so I decided to reboot. but for some reason, this showed up on the black screen:
"Award Bootblock BIOS v1.0
Copiright (c) 2000, Award Siftware, inc.

BIOS ROM checksum error

Detecting IDE ATAPI device..."
also, it made a beeping noise every second, and the computer seemed to be overheating.
i use windows home vista basic, but have linux ubuntu installed. my computer is an hp, purchased 2 years ago. please answer as i really need my computer and can't afford a new one for a looooong time.

Looks like your BIOS has a problem.



The Bookblock mode is only used when the BIOS is corrupt.



Either reset your BIOS to the defaults or get a "BIOS flash update file" from the motherboard manufacturer and run it from a floppy or CD or USB drive.

The read-only memory (ROM) containing the BIOS program is protected by a checksum value as a double-check that the ROM code is correct. This checksum is compared against the values in the ROM each time the PC is booted and if there is a mismatch, this code is generated. It is possible that the BIOS ROM chip on the motherboard is faulty. It could also be another component on the motherboard.

The beeping is a beep code. Google "Award Bios v1.0" beep codes then fidn you beep code. It should be something like 1 beep 2 fast beeps 1 beep.
