First off I had an error message - blue screen with something about unmountable_boot_volume and Physical Memory Dump. It took a million tries just to get something besides the error to come on the screen. And now all that's on my desktop is Internet Explorer and the Recycle Bin. I keep getting all these messages saying that my documents and settings are corrupted and unreadable and to run the Chkdsk utility. I typed that into the run box, and some things are being corrected, but nothing is changing. What can I do? I need to get my files back! I can't access any of my photos or anything on my computer.

YOU CAN TRY A SYSTEM RESTORE BUT,TRY THIS FIRST..IF YOU CAN GET TO"MY COMPUTER",RIGHT CLICK THE LOCAL DISK C ICON.CLICK"PROPERTIES",CLICK THE 'TOOLS"TAB.CLICK'ERROR CHECKING",CHECK BOTH BOXES.WINDOWS WILL INFORM YOU THAT IT NEEDS TO RESTART TO DO THE SCAN.CLICK OK.WHEN THE COMPUTER RESTARTS,IT WILL DO THE BOOT CHKDSK OPTION AND HOPEFULLY IT WILL FIX YOUR PROBLEM.TRY THIS FIRST BEFORE YOU DO A RESTORE.HOPE THIS HELPS YOU.

I'd take it to a professional computer repair shop and if they're good enough, they can recover the files for you. Any blue screen crash on a computer means that it's a hardware failure and from the way you're desribing it, it sounds like certain sectors on the harddrive are either broken or not functioning properly which is restricting you from accessing your photos and files. Go to a small business like a local repair shop, don't take it to Geek Squad or those idiots they have at Circuit City, you'll have to mortgage your house just to pay for the repair. Small time shops generally have better rates and better customer service.
