When my computer is started I get a message that says "your system has no paging file or is too small ...." It goes on to tell me how to correct this. Which I have tried. I can get to the performance part and it says I have 256 mg paging file and 1540mg is recommended. I change the figures click set; then apply, then okay and it tells me my system needs to reboot which I do. When it comes back on, I get the same message. My computer works but it is slow. I am using Windows XP, Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3; Mobile Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80 GHz, 0.99 GB of RAM. I know just about enough of this stuff to get myself in trouble. Thanks for any help.

Hi,

The Windows standard paging file size is 1.5 times the amount of memory you have in the machine, in your case about 1.5Gb. You have to bear in mind that this file is situated on your hard disk so you may be getting errors because you haven't enough space on the actual drive to store a file that size i.e. if you only have 1Gb free, you'll get an error saying your paging file is too small because Windows is trying to write to something there simply isn't room for. If this is the case, consider buying an external drive to take some of the strain off your OS.

Have a look at the links below for more detailed information; the first is pretty much to the point, the second is (extremely) more in depth.

Good Luck.

hi... looks to me, your attempt to reinvent the wheel.. why no longer enable domicile windows shield that... my innovations is ,, 1click on 'my computing device' , 2click on 'view device information' 3click on ' progressed' tab.. in the overall performance field, 4click settings. 5then elect 'enable domicile windows elect whats suited for the computing device' ... 6then reboot. 7then run your as much as date antivirus/spyware,(substantial) then reboot. 8then freshen up no longer undemanding force of junk. use domicile windows disk cleanser in case you dont have the rest to freshen up force. and do away with unused records/classes do a defrag then reboot back.. (antivirus could be solid and working) be happy to do step 7and8 every time. if this dont speed up your computing device i'm going to be darned.
