What's the difference between AMD processors and Intel processors nowadays?

This is what I heard: AMD processors managed to be much cheaper than Intel processors, but that is no longer the case. Intel found ways to make their processors even cheaper than AMD.

Also, AMD processors are easier to overclock, whereas Intel processors are very difficult to overclock.

I would like kind answers and comparisons between products of the two manufactuers, and comparisions for both server processors and desktop processors please!!

thanks! :)

AMD and Intel are two different brands obviously as you stated, but the news you heard is the other way around, AMD is the cheaper processor when comparing in the same class, (same class as in modern AMD dual core vs. modern Intel dual core, simply put, like the nintendo wii vs. playstation 3) and the intel processor is much more overclockable than a AMD processor, since you said "nowadays", really and truely, it your choice, because new AMD processors such as the AMD phenom 965 is just as good as intels i7, you wont see a difference in performance, except in the price.

I'm not going to be biased, but truely, AMD is the real bang for you buck, because intel processors are VERY expensive, you can get the AMD phenom 965 for $245 (on newegg.com) whereas the comparable intel i7 for $569.99. You won't see a major performance difference. Since in gaming, more fps (frames per second) depends on your graphic card. And you see in the reviews of both processors "This thing is DEAD FAST!!!!!" The "smart" people will laugh all the way to the bank.

The main difference is clock speeds and cache; however, finding specs that show you overall performance as a number is a little difficult. Most people will put Intel on the top as best performance, but you can get a really good AMD processor for a couple hundred USD less in most cases. Most users won't take full advantage of their processors though, so getting a decent mid range processor whether it's Intel or AMD will probably make for a machine you will be happy with. Tomshardware.com is a great place to start comparison shopping different builds based on benchmarks (standardized tests for computer performance). You'll see Intel out perform AMD on some and AMD outperform Intel on others. Look to see which benchmarks fit to your main usage and go with the top performer.

Once you figure it out you can build your own computer with custom components from sites like newegg.com or tigerdirect.com or go with a pre-built machine from hp.com or dell.com. If you want a sweet cooling system or lights etc go to frozencpu.com for some nerdy goodies.

As always your decision will probably come down to price, so shop around a little (at least 3-4 places) before buying a machine you will probably keep 3-5 years. Don't go cheap on the essentials: motherboard, power supply, and video card (if you are a gamer). Don't forget you will need an operating system (and possibly Microsoft Office if you are a student or need the machine for work) so don't forget to include it in your final price.

Intel is a much better end processor, and better value. AMD is low value, and in many situations around the computing gadget international have a bad recognition. on the different I run AMD without a hitch, basically had one issue with they took care of rapidly . they say AMD can no longer compete with i7 nevertheless.

It's like the difference between Chevy and Ford. For any given processor class, either AMD or Intel put out a better processor. You'd have to read actual comparisons to see which one was better for which class. Try Tom's Hardware - http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/Components,1/CPU,1/

short: intel>amd

tradditionally intel is more powerful overall they are better and should be your choice if money is not a concern. now more computer are being built with intel. they have come down in price. they are also starting to get better with power as well

amd is ussually behind intel and lets them make all the huge break throughs. they make theirs cheaper, more power efficient, and cooler. however they do not tend to be as powerful.

there is a great website to compare all cpu if you notice all the tops are mostly intel. they are bettter i have used them amd and intel. intel has always been better with power and relieblity. again they are closing the gap with power and price while still having the best power available.

go to list of cpu and you can compare all of them.

you can overclock intel. for server there is no one better than the xeon i think it is processor that is a great cpu
