depends on the laptop AND the TV

there is a convergence on TV's to become more like (computer) monitors. some modern TV's support all manner of external connections, including:-

RGB (19 pin 'D' plug)

Component Video (3 or possibly 4 0.25" RCA connectors)

HDMI

depends on your laptop, and what connectors it has

the best is probably going to be HDMI, followed by RGB, Im not aware of any /many laptops that have component video connectors, although soem laptop base stations (optional accessory)do have component video and other connectors such as Spdif (actually a sound / audio connector, but is sometimes is used in conjunction with video outputs (such as component video) to carry the sound ) and svideo.

Lots of wire, or just one cable.
