If you are looking to change your internet IP address to a static one, then you will have to contact your internet service provider and ask them for one. This may cost you.
if you are looking to change your computer's IP address on your home network to a static IP address, this procedure depends on your version of windows.
In Windows 7, follow the below procedures...
1. Click the start Orb and type "Network and sharing center" without the quotes.
2. When Network and Sharing center appears in the list, click it to open Network and Sharing Center.
3. On the left side of Network and Sharing Center, click the link that says "Change Adapter settings"
4. In the new window that appears, find the adapter you wish to change, and double click it. (If you are looking to change the currently active adapter, then it will be the one with out a red X near it.)
5. In the new smaller window, click the Properties button with a shield near it. If you are prompted for permission or a password, give permission, or enter your password to continue.
6. in the new window, find the line in the list that says "Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4)" highlight that line, and click the properties button (Do not uncheck this line!)
7. In the new window, select the radio buttons to use the following IP address (and same selection for DNS)
8. enter the desired IP address, making sure that the first 3 numbers match that of your router or modem, and the other can be anything from 5-250. For example. if your router's IP address is 192.168.1.1 then your statis IP address can be 192.168.1.??? (replace ??? with desired numbers) if you do not know your router or modem's IP address, then you can find the right address by going back to the network status window and clicking Details. The gateway is your router or modem's IP address.
8. Next, click on subnet Mask, and it will fill itself in automatically.
9. Default gateway should be the same as your router, or modem's IP address (see above for finding the gateway)
10. In the preferred DNS server field, enter the same number that you entered for your gateway.
11. Click Ok to close that window, then Ok on the next window then "Close" on the last small window. you can now also close the remaining windows which you had open during this procedure.
In most cases, this will work, however there may be a case where you have a IP address conflict with another computer on your network. In that case repeat the above procedure and replace ??? with another number (i usually start with 150 and work my way up). if you can't get your static IP address settings to work correctly, repeat the above procedure, except when you're choosing radio buttons, choose to obtain address automatically then click ok, ok, and close to apply the settings back to defaults.
