My friend sent me his work in a zip file on USB. I opened the zip and started working on the DOCX file inside for around 4 hours. I kept on saving throughout the process but it did not ask me where i was saving to so i assumed it was saving to the Zip file on the USB. But then when i quit out from the zip file and closed every thing, a sign came up saying 'do u want to add the new files to the zip'. i accidently pressed 'no'. Now only the original file is on the zip. All my work is lost. Is there anyway to get the work back. Its an assignment tomorrow and i have to finish it.. plzplzplz help if u know.. thank you..

Your save will be in the folder you unzipped the files in. If you didn't specify a folder, you need to go find it.

To recover all types of deleted files you can download Wondershare Data Recovery -> http://j.mp/1uUrrJD

Any time that a file is deleted on a hard drive, it is not erased. Instead, the information that points to the location of the file on the hard drive is erased. This pointer, along with other pointers for every folder and file on the hard drive, is saved in a section near the beginning of the hard drive and is used by the operating system to compile the directory tree structure. By erasing the pointer file, the actual file becomes invisible to the operating system. Eventually, the hard drive will write new data over the area where the old file is located. The data recovery utilities search for data on the hard drive that does not have corresponding pointer information and present you with a list of these files. Your chances of fully recovering a file diminish the longer you wait after you deleted the file since the probability that the file has been overwritten increases.

If you saved the files they should be somewhere and it's a matter of finding them. Do NOT re-open the zipfile and start working on it and saving it again because then you might overwrite your previous saves.

Maybe you can just re-open the last save by selecting the "open" or "load" function in the application you were working in. You could also open the zipfile into the application again (be carefull not to save it) and choose the "save as" function. This may display a dialog-box that displays the location your saves where made in if you are lucky (do not press ok but close the dialog box using cancel to avoid saving).

I am not sure but maybe it's possible the application saved the changes to the zipfile-content in a temporary folder so i'd try to avoid shutting down the computer or rebooting to prevent the temporary folder to be erased. Maybe this temporary folder was already erased when closing the application in that case the saves are lost unless you find a way to "undelete" them.
