i don't understand why only sometime my internet explorer 7 freezes/hangs.
i connect to the internet and sometimes i just get a plain white box and no homepage and it just stays like that. shuting the box box down doesn't work and i have to go through task manager. sometimes that don't work unluess i am persistent.
this only happens once in a while say every 2 days or something. the rest of the time i have no problems and it is fast.
i do not have any virus/spyware etc as i have done numerous scans with norton 2008, mcafee's website virus scan, windows live safety scanner full scan and i also have a dell pc tune up subscription that does a scan. only norton is installed on my pc as i know i can only have one antivirus and the other scans are not installed and online done through online.
i have tried webroot windows washer and cleaned out my pc, uninstalled that and then done ccleaner. i have stopped unneed startup programs, disabled internet explorer add onss that are not needed.

O.K. let me attempt to offer useful advice. I also have Vista Home Premium and IE7 myself and it sounds like you have done everything I would try. A few more ideas that are just a shot in the dark:

In Internet Explorer click "Tools" select "Internet Options", then click the "Connections" tab then click on "Lan settings" and "Automatically detect settings" checkbox should be checked.

Another thing you could check:

Note: This step will help us change the settings in order to obtain an automatic IP address. If you are using a certain IP address and DNS server, please record them first. After trying the following steps, please check if the Internet connection works and if the issue is resolved. If the Internet connection is lost, please revert to the original IP address and DNS server.

1. Click "Start", input "NCPA.CPL" (without quotation marks) to Start Search bar and press "Enter" or click on the "NCPA.CPL" icon that appears.

2. Right-click the network connection and click "Properties".

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

3. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" and click "Properties".

4. Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically".

5. Click "OK".

6. Click to highlight "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click "Properties".

7. Check "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically".

8. Click "OK".

9. Reboot the computer.

Well that is all I got for you, just a couple shots in the dark as I said. Hope it helps to get the problem solved. If not then I would suggest it may possibly be the ISP, unlikely.

Internet Explore 7 is a pure crap. Don't use it. Use Mozilla Firefox 3. Can you imagine it has 4 million downloads in just 48 hours.

A small description :-

The award-winning Web browser is better than ever. Browse the Web with confidence. Firefox protects you from viruses, spyware and pop-ups.

Enjoy improvements to performance, ease of use and privacy. It's easy to import your favorites and settings and get started.

The latest version delivers easier navigation for everyone, including those who are visually or motor-impaired. Firefox is the first browser to support DHTML accessibility, which, when enabled by Web authors, allows rich Web applications to be read aloud. Users may navigate with keystrokes rather than mouse clicks, reducing the tabbing required to navigate documents such as spreadsheets. Firefox is also the first browser to meet US federal government requirements that software be easily accessible to users with physical impairments.

It's the best browser available till now. Download it from here :-

When I had that problem I deleted IE7 and then reinstalled it.
