If I scan my computer right before I'm going to use it, will it prevent the blue screen of death from showing?
I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials by the way.

No. If you have a laptop and a long haired cat (or dog), you can easily get a hairball just inside the fan that causes overheating (a good friend fried her HP laptop this way). Blue screen of death followed the overheating. For the best scan & repair, get Advanced System Care 6 (free forever) from CNET downloads. I scan my desktops just before shutting down. Hit "scan" and check the box "turn off computer when finished".

No.
BSOD usually means you have some sort either viral issue and/or hardware that is failing.

unplug any usb devices that your not using.
if your download torrents then limit the download rate because if its too high then youll get bluescreen because the downloads are using too much bandwidth
