To change background colour of an image or text box, right click, down to format picture (in the case of pic), fill colour. with text box, right button of mouse, format text box, colour and lines, fill colour. To insert a picture into text frame, copy and paste it in and then right button of mouse on pic, format picture, Layout, and use whichever text wrapping option you want. If you dont wrap the text it will go where you dont want it to. Sometimes best way of bringing in pics to stay where you want is to use a table rather than text boxes and use simple alignments to put where you want within the cell.

There is a much better way to solve that problem. You don't need to insert a text box and insert a picture inside the text box as that would result to white outline around the top layer box. I recommend you by simply inserting a picture directly to your word document. By default, the format menu will open that will enable you to format the picture inserted. Click Text Wrapping and select either Behind Text or In Front of Text. That way you can move your images anywhere around your word document and you can layer more images on top of the other images. You can resize the pictures if you want. Hope this solves your problem.

In the text box properties, there is a section to change its bgcolor. I am not sure about the picture in text box as I haven't done it, but it doesn't really sound logical to do that.

use insert clipart... and select your source. use text wrap to set your boundaries, and set the line thickness to create a border.

you can change colours etc from teh graphics tablet.. its does text/lines/background etc... and you can get some great effects using several layers, overlapping and interweaving...

yeah it takes a bit of time to learn it... but once you do... its easy... justlike everythig else.
