1. A customer has requested that their computer be cleaned of all programs that have not been used in the past 3 months. How would you determine what programs needed to be removed? What would the process be to delete those from the computer? Be specific.
2. A customer complains that every time they start up their computer, the wrong operating system loads. What is happening in this situation and how can you diagnose the problem using the command line?
3. In your opinion, why is it important for a technician to know what files are accessed during a computer startup?
4. Managing a computer is very important. Discuss at least three reasons why a computer user needs to continuously monitor their computer. What will happen if the owner keeps using the computer without conducting any maintenance?
5. All files are given attributes. Explain the different file attributes, how you can find what attributes are assigned and how they can be altered.

why are you trying to fix a computer when you know nothing about them?

1) control panel > add & remove programs has a drop down list of options, choose date. theres certain things you will only be able to remove because some programs have other uses.

2) the second hdd (assuming theres 2) has an opertating system that is being loaded, in this case it is the master and not the slave (which the slave would be the one you want loaded, go into the bios and change this)

3) because theres a lot of programs loaded on start up which makes it slow. theres certain ones that need to be loaded to function correctly, yahoo messenger/msn/aim - is not a necessity of start up.

4) conducting maintenance software and hardware wise is important. dusting the inside making sure everything is still in its place if moved, software related it would be wise to have spyware/ad-ware and anti-virus/anti-spam programs installed. its healthy for your computer to be checked weekly incase you get a virus, and there goes all your data. you need to maintain your computer because either you want to keep the machine clean, or let it get dirty and lose everything (documents, etc).

5) .exe is obviously an execution file, while .doc is microsoft word file format. .wma is windows media. you can locate the attributes by right clicking the file and looking at the attributes (read-only, hidden, etc)

6) i hope i just didn't do your homework for you cause this was fairly easy =x

THUMBS UP to the guy below! =]

1. In Control Panel under Add/Remove programs it will tell you when the last time a program was accessed. It will also say something like used "Rarely".

2. Sounds like it is a "dual boot" computer.

3. For troubleshooting computer problems.

4. (see link below for more info.)

5. Each file is stored in a directory, and uses a directory entry that describes its characteristics such as its name and size. The directory entry also contains a pointer to where the file is stored on disk. One of the characteristics stored for each file is a set of file attributes that give the operating system and application software more information about the file and how it is intended to be used. (see link below for more info.)
