Who are the companies in the business,making Operating System? And What are the names of these OS?

1) Windows made by Microsoft

2) Mac OS made by Apple

3) Unix which has several implementation

4) Linux which has a million different distributions and is free open source

5) BSD which is a more true free implementation of Unix. There are a few different distribution.

Microsoft : Made windows 3.1, windows 95, windows 98, windows mellinium, windows 2000, windows 200 server, windows 2003 server, windows 2005 server, windows xp, and presently windows vista.



RED HAT: Makes RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise linux)

RHEL has many versions like 3.3, 4.3, 4.4, 4.5, 4.6, 4.7.

It also makes simple Red Hat Operating system.

it also makes Fedora linux (its free).

Another version Fedora Core.



Mandriva: Makes Mandriva linux



Ubuntu: Makes ubuntu, kubuntu, ekabuntu, Xubuntu



Apple : makes OS for only Apple Mac laptops. there are many OSX (pronounced OS X) and a lot other.



Basically except windows all the other operating systems that i stated are linux based.
