Or do I have to install it on that stick while it's plugged in to the computer I plan on playing it at?

no its not possible coz everygame that you install needs registry entries to be entered in your computer ... also the vital 3d engine of the game needs to make ini files and conf files ... so that it can interact with the 3d graphics on your computer ..... all this happens when you install any game on any computer..... when you transfer the installed game folder on a usb drive to a different pc ... the 3D game engine doesnt have the registry entries to interact with the 3d graphics of the other computer ... also various game components do not have subsequent conf files configured according to the other pc....

the only way you can carry installed games on your usb drive is ... if its a flash game.

All of the games library files have to be contained on the drive. Most games require registry modification that is only performed through installation of the program on to the C:\ drive. An example of a game that would work from the drive would be a small flash game like the ones at www.pogo.com.

Games like age of empires or World of Warcraft are too large and require multiple registry entries.

Not a good complex game. If it requires installation then it writes files to different locations on the computer and updates the registry. I have seen some simple little portable games that work that way.

check out the Pstart utility, lots of cool stuff in a small package

for some games this may work, for some games this will not work, for more complex games this will not work, they require registry settings be changed on the users computer in addition to other issues, all i can say is why not try it.
