or apple or whatever.

I've been using windows operating systems for all my life. So I need some convincing to make the switch. Thing is i'm clueless about the Macs. I don't know what's good about it. It seems to lack a lot of functions. Like a right click. C'mon a one button mouse!? Like it just seems so simple. So simple that I can't do much on the computer.

See and everyone out there uses microsoft words and stuff. Also I'm not sure if all the programs will work on macs. Windows is dominant and everyone caters to windows. not so much to mac.

you say I can get bootcamp or whatever and run windows.

how exactly does that work? How do i run windows on it? Will it act as if I had a windows os? If so will i be prone to viruses as if it were a windows os? How is apples less likely to be infected?

As there anti-spyware or virus programs for macs?

Yeah i need some convincing. I have an ipod, but it's different from a computer.

Ok first of all let me just say I have a Mac. I have used PCs in the past but I will never stop using Macs.

First to answer your questions:

1. Macs can and do have a right click. On the "mighty mouse" you can configure it to have a right click. You can also buy 3rd party mice to use a right click. On laptops you just hold down the Command/apple key to right click.

2. Word does work on Macs. It is almost exactly the same. But I do recommend the mac word processor Pages. For me, more simple to use than Word.

3. Bootcamp is now built into OSX 10.5 You need a copy of Windows XP service Pack 2. Or a copy of windows Vista to install the dual boot.

4. The computer will dual boot Windows meaning that you hold down a key on startup to get the option to boot OSX or Windows. I think that you can get viruses but it will NOT affect he Mac OSX partition.

5. There ARE virus/anti-spyware programs for Mac.

Now my own reasons:

1. OSX, the operating systems. I love OSX (especially leopard) it so so easy to use, it is intuitive, it is smart. There are so many features similar to Vista but they just plain work better. For me this is the biggest draw.

2. Design. I admit it, I love Apple design. I really love how it looks, and.... it helps functionality because again it iust so intuitive and easy to use.

3. The experience you get with an iPod is is many ways similar to the experience you get with some parts or Mac functionality. For instance the ease of use, which brings me back to how intuitive everything is.

So in conclusion, if you are fed up with windows. Make the switch. But if you are a long time Windows user the switch might be hard. Now is the best time to make the switch because of Bootcamp and Leopard. built into every Mac.

If you do make the switch I recommend an iMac.

For me, using a Mac makes using a computer fun.

I had windows for 10 years, finally made the switch to macs about 3-4 years ago and absolutely love them. My roommate had one but I knew nothing about them, just that they were different. But I saw they never had any problems with theirs and it loaded up about 10 X quicker than my PC. Also on my laptop I can shut the screen at anytime and then reopen it back to where I was without having to shut it down or restart it. Boot Camp is awesome. Basically you have 2 computers inside 1. I don't have it on my current laptop but have used it at the apple store. You have 2 processors that your computer is running on with all the new macs. 2 can be all for Mac OSX or 1 for mac OSX and 1 for windows. Everything is kept separate. You are still prone to viruses on the windows side but it won't mess with the Mac side. When you startup your computer chose which you want to work on and then it starts. You will have the full Microsoft OS and you can use all the programs and everything made for Microsoft. Or you can chose the Mac side for everything else. Mac OSX does have Microsoft Office available though. The best thing to do is to go to an apple store and spend an hour or so just playing on it. You will make the switch.

I used to have a Mac... Long ago... Mac is very simple and I at first thought would be hard getting used to Windows. The truth is Windows is rather simple these days as well. Ok. Macs are attacked by less viruses. Macs are robust. Macs look nice inside and out. But the truth is that Macs are more expensive. And programs for Macs are more expensive. And there are less programs (games very much included) for Macs. So, I can't advise you to switch to a Mac. It all comes down to taste but I'd stick with Windows.

With the Intel chips installed, the new Macs can now run Windows-based software. PCs can run Apple software too, but it takes a hackers skills to do it. The Apple operating system is much more stable (at least over XP - don't know about Vista), and the security on a Mac is probably a lot better. If he's doing video or graphics work, its probably the best way to go. I love my Mac!
