deleting windows xp updates&hotfixes?

can i keep the last update&hotfix for windows xp and delete all previos enrtries without adverse effect on my computer.

Windows updates and hotfixes are not always cumulative. That is, you may run into problems by removing hotfixes. The latest ones don't necessarily provide updates to previous ones and if you remove the old ones, your computer will be buggy or vulnerable.



Some hot fixes only address specific problems. Some are roll-ups: meaning they contain a lot of previous hotfixes in one patch, similar to but smaller than service packs.



Some hotfixes address problems created by previous hotfixes, but that's another story!



If you install a service pack, there is no benefit to removing an old service pack. If you find you are running out of drive space and are looking to delete unused things, try reducing the percentage of your hard drive used for the recycle bin and your internet explorer cache, uninstalling old programs, or backing up old files onto CD or DVD.

Why would you do that?



If and WHEN Microsoft notices a bug, the new update will automatically remove or modify it.



There is no point in removing things, unless it has caused you harm. I know it takes up a lot of space, but that's the price you have to pay using a poor operating system.



A hotfix fixes flaws in the operating system.

Like, security issues, bugs etc.



Don't worry, if you have an Anti-virus software, firewall and a Spy Ware remover + Surfing safe, you're pretty much safe and you don't have to worry.

I would not do it since he latest is built on previous and some things are in addition to existing. If you go into windows explorer and look in the windows folder, you will find some uninstall files, normally in blue. These can be safely deleted since they are for uninstalling the updates when there is a problem affecting a driver or file. Have always gotten rid of them to maintain disk space.
