more info would help

in the mean time

set the ip address statically on the pc, that way it will not need to ask the routers dhcp server for an ip address

from control panel select network connections and then select the lan.

Right click and scroll down to properties. On the general tab select tcp/ip and then properties.

the ip address need to be in the same range as the router. As you don't mention brands I don't know what that should be.

Assuming that you can access the web using the router and wifi on another machine then on that machine go to start>run, type cmd, hit return and then at the prompt type ipconfig/all

this will show you the routers gateway address, eg 192.168.2.1

now you can use this info to manually set the ip address on pc1, make sure that you don't have more than two pcs with the same ip address.

In this example case try 192.168.2.6 as the ip address

the subnet mask will auto fill and should be 255.255.255.0 and the gateway 192.168.2.1 (the routers ip adress).

On occassion I have found that uninstalling the network card and reinstalling it has forced it to get an ip address with out needing to manually set one.

Disconnect the Ethernet cable. Down on the backside precise of your demonstrate there could be 2 overlapping boxes with a pink go. this means your community area community (LAN) port isn't linked to something. in case you won't be able to discover the icon then your LAN port could be disabled. as quickly as you hit upon the icon, activate the router and reconnect the cable. If the go disappears or the icon disappears altogether then you are linked to the router. Now examine the router training for what to do next. you may not connect via potential of USB and that i could be shocked in the journey that your router has a USB port so which you will hook up with.

It sounds like your router does not have Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) enabled, but your network connection set to automatically obtain an IP address.

You may try manually setting your IP address to either 192.168.0.2 or 192.168.1.2 (192.168.x.1 is a very common default router address). For a subnet, use 255.255.255.0 (Gives you the last octet for PC assignment).

You may try connecting to the router at 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1, and enable DHCP, so that the router may 'hand out' IP addresses for any machine requesting one.

EDIT:

"By default, your Netopia gateway has an Ethernet IP Address of 192.168.1.254" also, "...[has] DHCP (IP Address Serving) enabled."

This means that you should be able to reset the router to default settings and then just set your network adapters tcp/ip properties to obtain an IP address automatically. The DNS should be set to automatic as well.

If you have trouble trying to connect to the routers configuration page, set your network adapters IP to 192.168.1.2, subnet 255.255.255.0 then go into a web browser and go to '192.168.1.254'. you should now be looking at the routers configuration page. This should however not be necessary since a successful reset of the router should enable DHCP, and only require you to set your network connection to automatically obtain IP and DNS.

EDIT2:

"And I dont have a modem i think" - YOU

If you don't have a modem, you will not have an internet connection. You may still use the router for a local area network (LAN), but you will need a modem and to subscribe to an Internet service provider (ISP) in order to connect online.

What do you have plugged into the router?

-One power cable.

-One network cable for the PC.

-What else? (you need an internet connection to be plugged in)

do this in order.

1. shut down the computer and unplug the router and modem.

2. plug in the modem and wait till it says ready or all the lights are blinking normally.

3. plug in the router. Wait till it comes on completely.

4. start your computer.

I find if you don't do it in this exact order it won't connect to your isp.

hope this helps.

Without knowing the router brand and type of network setup you have, there is a good starting point to connecting your computer wirelessly:
