Question:
Why can't I save this file?
2007-08-07 12:43:31 UTC
I am opening a file that came attached to an email. When I double-click and choose "Open" it takes me to the file, but it opens as a webpage. When I choose "Save" it is telling me that the file name ends in ".htm" and it doesn't let me change that. When I do save it and try to open it, it opens again as a webpage. Is there any way to save it as a document? Or even as a pdf file? The address on the address bar when i open it says file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/FRONTDESK/Local%20Settings/Temporary%20Internet%20Files/OLK51/65160%20(3).htm

you can open a program like notepad or wordpad. Then drag that file into it - or navigate using file open (in notepad or wordpad) to that file to open it within.

If you want to save as a document, you need to use copy and paste. Highlight what you want to save in the webpage, right-click and choose copy, then open a word doc (or whatever), and choose paste.

Saving as a pdf isn't an option without a software package.

You can only save an htm file as a web page. You have to do a little dancing to save the info in another format.

HTM is the contents or a webpage. HTM is also associated with Internet Explorer. Just like .DOC is associated with Word and .XLS is associated with Excel. If you click on one of these, you automatically open Word or Excel. If you double click on an .HTM, you open Internet Explorer.

If you want to open HTM in another program, open Word (for example), and do an open, tell it to look for all files, and then load your file. You can then save it as a Word doc.

So... working as designed.

If it's a webpage, you can copy the contents of the page into a Word (.doc) file by hitting Ctrl-A to select All, Ctrl-C to copy it to the Clipboard and the paste (Ctrl-V) into the Word doc and save it.

If you want it as a PDF, download PrimoPDF (www.primopdf.com) and you can print it to a PDF file.

The third way is to Click on View dropdown menu and click on Source. This will open the HTML code and you can save it as an HTML file.

GOOD luck.
