This process should be fairly simple. To log into the router you will need to do the following. If you are running in a windows environment simply click on the start button, and then on run. Type cmd if it is NT, 2000, XP, or Vista, if it is windows 95,98, Me then type command. This will open up a dos prompt. at the prompt type ipconfig/all and then press return. You will see an entry in the output that says default gateway. Write this address down, as you will need it in a minute. Next, open a browser window in internet explorer, then type in the address that you wrote down in the previous step (i.e. 192.168.1.1), then press return. This should bring you to the login page for your router. Simply input the user name, (usually admin), and the password, and then press return or click login. Then you will have to look for where it says password in asteriks. Simply delete the asteriks and then type in a new password making sure that you enter the exact same password in the confirm password box. There should be a button or something that says update or save, etc. click on this to save your changes. I advise you to do the following, create a password that uses upper case, lower case letters, numbers and special characters as this is harder to crack. (example: NyPd07$). You really should consider taking additional steps to locking down your router, such as limiting the number of available ip addresses to only the computers, IP printers that you have at home that need an address. Also, I would reccomend setting up MAC address filters, and entering in the MAC addresses of all your devices into the router. This is imporant, because then the only one that can get an ip address on your network is one of the computers in your home. You can also turn broadcasting of your SID off. Some of these steps can be a little bit complicated if you aren't familiar, but worth the effort. Perhaps you can ask some of your friends, that might be able to help you with this. Anyways, I hope this helped. Take care!

If you can't access the router control panel (usually http://192.168.0.1 or 192.168.2.1 or something similar), the only way to do it is to either hack your own router, or to walk up physically to your router and find a button labelled "Reset" or something similar. Press it (you might need a pin or other sharp object), and immediately return to your computer to access the router control panel to change the password. Refer to the documentation that came with your router if you need any help, it should be all there if you look carefully.

Please note that configuring the router and accessing the router's wireless connection are two separate things and usually requires two separate passwords. If you're just worried that someone is leeching off your wireless connection, simply change the wireless network password in your router's control panel. If you're offered a choice of encryption methods, choose WPA or WPA2 and not WEP because WEP protection is useless against determined wardrivers. As usual, consult your documentation.

What people said by reset the router for 30 Sec is to disable it from the power ( Power it off ) for 10-60 Sec depends on router model... but the real meaning of reset is to reset the whole router settings << ie that you need to call the company u dealing with and re-config. the network settings >> this usually done when the network is completely down or when u think that there is a problem in the router it self. Im only explaining the meaning of reset and i dont know anything about this problem as im not an Xbox user

Go to the company web site. They will have the instruction. But it is usually to hold down the reset button while you are powering the router on. Then follow the web site recommednation for securing your router. Change the password right away. And turn off the ability to administer the router over the internet

Its impossible for unknown people using your wireless. when you install wireless its registered only to your own address. don't worrie. your PC will show all the wireless networks in range but they will need permission.

By resetting your router password, you don't prevent someone else using your connection. You just protect your router settings, which is a good idea-as you don't want someone messing about with them and possibly rendering your router useless.

To prevent someone else from using your connection, you will need to SECURE your network. This is usually done via your router settings, which are found on 192 etc. under SECURITY. I think a visit to their website may be of benefit.

your password by default is admin, your username by default is admin. redo the setup and change your username and password. the range is only 80-100 metres so i doubt your connection is being scrounged unless your being hot spotted. if you share a house or flat all i need is the wireless tp-link dongle and i can connect my comp to your network once your back is turned. btw good system, thats what i have tp-link, main pc to laptop

Hello!

I am sorry I totally disagree with the "solution" of setting up Mac address filtering proposed by another member.

It does not help you, it will makes you think you are secure while even a kid can override it!

To reset your password you need to "reset" the router, either by pressing the Reset button on the router (probably on the back of it, with a pen as its a small button). Please note that sometimes you have to wait for like 15 secondes before it reset it! Also try at last solution, you need to press and leave that button pressed, unplugged completely from power, replug, still pressing...

Otherwise do you know you can access the "router config page" with typing like 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 or 198.168.2.1 in your browser? (firefox, internet explorer...)

The thing is you seems to get confused, reseting the password will not help you preventing someone else using your connection via wireless..

to be secure you will need to:

-change the default login/password of your router config

-put encryption Wpa2 for the wifi

-put a proper complex passphrase (not like myteddy123, something hard and long like "z#~@'2g@rd3n!!"T3stPou.?".

-lower the broadcasting range settings if you don't it to emit the signals very far

-change the ip addressing of your network (ie change from 192.168.1.1 by default probably to something hard like 10.134.21.1)

-check regularly the logs if available in your router config page (192.168.1.1)

Well if you do that thats already in good way!
