about 2 months ago, i got a virus in my windows live messenger that was sending me spam virus emails, i uninstalled windows live messenger, and have been trying to reinstall it for 2 months -

the windows live '' installer '' has kept informing me that i still have windows live messenger on my computer , so i havent been able to reinstall it..

so about a week back i used crap cleaner and easy cleaner to clean out my registry , clean out files , clean unnecessary files....i used the un installed to delete windows live files that it still detected etc.

that seemed to work, i went to download windows live messenger again from their website and the installer is going ahead to supposedly install windows live messenger again..

but, i have paused with the installation because im scared that, because its been 2 months since i have been able to download windows live messenger.......all my emails and contacts in my messenger list - and emails in my inbox - - might of been erased , deleted ?

is there a danger that because ive not been able to re download windows live for 2 months that all my contacts on my messenger list have been deleted ?

that all my important emails in my inbox in windows live messenger have been deleted ?

that my email addresses that i use to sign in into different windows messenger accounts have been deleted ?

can anyone help ?

Use Pidgin. Open-source alternative.

As long as you log into Hotmail/Live occassionally, the account will be active. I don't know the policy now, but it used to be that if there's no activity for 30 days, you need to reactivate.

You can download ccleaner for free here: http://bit.ly/1Bk5V5C

First open CCleaner

Go to the Cleaner tab and you will be confronted by a very confusing lineup of checkboxes.

To make this brief, below is my recommended setup:

Under internet explorer check temporary internet files, cookies, and last download location. Most users don't really need this stuff. keep history and bookmarks unchecked, history is a maybe, but you don't want to lose bookmarked sites. You can normally leave Windows Explorer, System, and Advanced alone.

Run CCleaner and it will start deleting files.

afterward it will present you with a list of the files deleted, you really don't need to go through it as it will be several pages long.

The registry cleaner is recommended for slightly more advanced users. Use it after uninstalling programs as they will often leave behind incorrect registry entries.

If you decide to run Registry cleaner then review the items detected and always back up the registry (I keep a folder aside for this)

The Tools tab lets you uninstall programs and set startup programs. Why do you need this if Windows has all of these features? Especially with Vista Home Ed. The windows defender software explorer( startup programs) doesn't pick up some entries (however software explorer is easier to use).

Using CCleaner to uninstall programs and then check for leftover registry entries takes less time.

Under Options you can determine how CCleaner cleans your files. I leave this alone.
