Question:
Please help!!!???? Urgent.... This is sooo frustrating!!!?

Please don't ignore this question because its just a little bit longer. I really need help... The best answer WILL get 10 points! Thanks...

First of all, 2 days ago I turned this computer on. Then it came up with a message saying the drive fiberfill.says is corrupt and unreadable (The message came from the task bar). A minute later the computer went to a blue screen with a message on it. But it flashed so fast I couldn't read it. After it, the computer shut down. It does that every time I go on the computer. I can't go on the 3 safe modes because they shut down after 1 minute I turn it on. But they don't come up with a message, they have ALWAYS been like that. I tried out these other safe modes below, and one worked. But instead of making everything bigger, it made everything smaller. But anyway! I tried turning firefox on but it said it was in use, which it wasn't. And it wasn't open in the Windows Task Manger, either. So I had to use IE (Internet Explorer). Also, my msn version went down to version 4.7 from 8.5. And when I try to open my programs, it installs them! But then it says I can't install things in Safe Mode. I did some research and found out to do a Disk Check. So I went to My Computer, Properties of disk C:, Tools, and Disk Checking. I ticked the two boxes, and clicked start. Then immediately came up with a message "Windows was unable to complete the disk check". Other people usually scan a bit, then get a message. But for me it comes up immediately! Then I tried doing a Command Prompt way. I followed the instructions, but nothing worked. It could of been because I'm in Safe Mode. I'm not sure! This is so frustrating! How can I solve this problem!? 10 points... Please Help!!!!???

Emily's answer above would be what you'd want to try first. If that fails, these steps will fix your problem:

This more than likely doesn't have anything to do with hibernation.

Easy answer: reinstall windows.

Long answer: Your registry is corrupt and you can try to find an old one (which may be useless, but can get you back into windows to reinstall your apps, etc.): http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=307545

A reinstall of the OS might be your best bet (and as long as you don't format, and just reinstall over the old one, you won't lose your data, but you'll still need to reinstall your apps afterwards). http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;[LN];315341

If you can get into your command prompt (cmd) try typing this command out:

chkdsk /r

and hitting enter. It will tell you it was unable to complete and will pick up on reboot. Try this out and if it runs through or even starts to run once, keep doing it and you may be able to find all of your bad sectors and clusters, repair and replace missing/corrupt system files. I've brought some pretty bad computers back to life using this command.

chkdsk /f works as well, but the /r switch seems to work in different circumstances where the /f does not. Try them both if you can. If you can get it back using those commands, I would run a defrag on the hard drive.

Also, if you get it back, go to Start->Run and type in

msconfig

and hit enter. Go to the Startup tab and check the box at the bottom that will hide all of your Microsoft services and uncheck all of the rest. This changes the services to manual (when you want the programs on, they turn on) instead of automatic (always on even if you never use it). That should speed your computer up which may be causing some errors.

If you can write down and Google your stop code (from the blue screen), it may tell you what the problem is. It will look something like:

0x0008065c, 0x800605F3, 0x0000000000, 0x000000000

If the issue is faulty memory modules, than you won't fix it until they are replaced. So google your stop code and see what it is trying to say. Hopefully checkdisk works for you though.

Good luck!

Sounds to me like your Hard Drive is failing. IF this is the case, then the only option you have is to replace the hard drive. Now the problem with this is that all your old data will be stored on the old hard drive. Sometimes you can get some of the information off the old drive once you get the new one in and your operating system installed.

the link in my source gives a list of utilities that you can use to recover the data. I haven't tried any of these, so I can't recommend one, but from what they say, any should work.

Now, about hiberfil.sys. It's the hibernation snapshot file. It is used to store what is in your memory while the computer hibernates so that it can boot up faster (to what you had open when the computer was shut down). It alone shouldn't cause something like what you described. I think that the corrupted hiberfil.sys is a symptom rather than a cause.

Generally your hiberfil.sys file is part of your computer's hibernation feature where it stores, or takes a picture of, your hard drive and programs. In short, your hibernation feature takes everything that's in your memory and writes to your drive.

What you want to do is to turn off your hibernation feature and it will safely then delete your hiberfil.sys file.

Personally, hibernation just takes up to much of your computer's resources when you can simply just shut down your computer yourself.

Here's how to turn off hibernation:

1. Open the Windows Control Panel

2. Double-click on 'Power Options.'

3. Click the Hibernate tab, de-select the 'Enable hibernate support' check box, and then click Apply.

4. Restart your computer and hiberfil.sys will be automatically deleted. You cannot delete hiberfil.sys just by deleting it. You must turn off hibernation first.

You can always re-enable it later if you want.

5. Run both a Chkdsk c: /f and also run Disk Cleanup in your System Tools area. It's possible your C drive is getting crowded and a bit full.

To run Chkdsk, click START > RUN and type in the box: chkdsk c: /f and just click Y = yes if asked. Then reboot.

To run Disk Cleanup, click START > ALL PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > SYSTEM TOOLS > Disk Cleanup.

Lastly, there could be other reasons you are getting the blue screen of death too. We just don't know at this point.

Good Luck!

hiberfil.sys is your hibernation storage. This is where your system write to when you select hibernate instead of shutdown.

You might have to disable hibernation and shutdown to get the computer to work. Your OS might be totally fubar though. Hard to say without being able to see it.

* Open the Windows Control Panel

* Double-click Power Options

* Click the Hibernate tab, de-select the 'Enable hibernate support' check box, and then click Apply.

* Restart your computer and hiberfil.sys will be automatically deleted.

* If you change your mind in the future and would like to use hibernation, go to the Windows Help & Support Center and search for 'enable hibernation'. It should be the first result. The instructions detail some other steps you may need to follow to reactivate the hibernation.

If you can get this far with it rebooting/shutting down, try disabling Hibernation, as that's what the hiberfil.sys is for. If your apps are reinstalling instead of running, perhaps you had already run System Restore to a date prior the apps being installed. Unfortunately, people are so quick to recommend running System Restore without warning of these types of side effects. If you have your Install disc, you can boot from it to run chkdsk from the Recovery Console.

Several things could be going on here: corrupted sectors on your hard drive (today's drives don't have as long a lifespan as drives of old), one or more viruses or other kinds of malware. Best to take the computer to a good shop and have them try to remove any malware, save your data files, then install a new hard drive if you need one. They would re-load Windows (XP or Vista), probably an anti-virus program also, but you will have to re-install all your other programs. (Saved data files would include text files, picture files, favorites from your browser, email files, and that sort of thing.)

Bro, I actually do know the answer to this question and it is not good. You will have to wipe your hard drive and start over fresh. That is why it is of utmost importance to back up your cherished files while everything is in good working order. Also, from now on, create a restore point everytime you make changes so that if this happens again, you can go back to that previous point. Sorry, Bro, I have been through this numerous times and as a previous answerer said, it's called the "blue screen of death"!

did you try the last good configuration instead of a safe mode?

it opens the computer the last time it was working best.

if you can't do that, and if it won't let you do a disk check, you may have a viruis. thats what it sounds like. i would call a computer geek or something and talk to them about it.

From my judgment it seems you have a corrupt hardrive. I had the sort of same problem and flash of blue was i think the "blue screen of death" as some people call it. You may have to go get another hardrive. But I'm not entirely sure so check with your local computer store.

Try disabling hibernation by going to Control Panel, Performance and Maintenance, Power Options, click the Hibernate tab, and uncheck the "enable hibernation" box. Click ok, go to Run, and type del "C:\hiberfil.sys". This should fix the problem, since hiberfil.sys is only used for hibernation, and it should be deleted when hibernation is disabled.

Not sure if this is ur problem but have you tried air spraying your computer recently? Dust can be an issue, overheating the motherboard, and when the motherboard wants to dye youll see a lot of blue screens especially when using a lot of ram.

If youv tried everything in ur comp already, start typing the things on it.

check the system to see if anything is turned off or on but it could very well be on safe mode or that something is corrupt on your computer

do a system restore to oh say a week or two ago.

i had some trouble a while back (3 to 4 mos) and it corrected some trouble i was having.

To me it sounds like your computer is completely infected by viruses or spyware which have taken control of it.

Prior to all these things happening, did you have an effective program to check and delete viruses?

I don't know if an infected computer can be repaired.

Looks like a harddrive crash =(

You may lose all of your data, so I suggest you stop using your computer. Try to take it to a repair place, (yellowpages).

Or use warranty.

But again, don't use the drive, you may end up scratching it beyond repair.

Try one of these below: (click on) I pray it's not complicated!

EDIT -- TRY THIS:

Go to Start -> Run and type in sfc /scannow then click OK

Allow this to run and it will repair any corrupt files it finds.

Something similar happened with my computer. I got the Blue screen witch said my Computer was in Kernel Error or something. It only happened after I updated my security system Zone Alarm. It said it was being forced to shutdown and blue screen comes up. I dunno but my technician guy fixed it for me. but... he had to wipe it dry.

wipe your hard drive and start over !

That same thing happened to my girlfriends computer so i just wiped the hard drive and re-installed windows and it is working really well other than the fact you have to start everything over

I would say the best thing to try and do is go to your my computer, then add/remove programs and look for anything that seems kinda fishy, remove it, and restart. see if that helps. hope so!
