Question:
Why do mac computers suck so much?
2009-11-12 22:21:16 UTC
5 reasons why Pcs are better than macs.
1. You can customize PCs which you can't do on macs.
2. Macs have no good games.
3. PC software is far more inexpensive and reliable.
4. PC makers use the newest processors.
5. The current Mac operating system is equivalent to Windows 95 just with better graphics.

PC=Variety of specs, options, quality, prices, vendors, support

Mac=One vendor, limited options, still more expensive. Look below for more information..

Today, Macs use a subset of PC hardware. Why spend extra to get the same CPU chips, graphics cards and OS X isn't as secure as you think..

Don't believe the lies that Macs are better than PCs at graphics/animation.. Dreamworks Animation http://www.dreamworksanimation.com/ under studio click on Technology of Animation, an independent film maker I know uses PCs, a graphic artist I used to know uses PCs also.

A number of PCs can also run OS X (Mac OS) http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=os+x+on+pc&btnG=Google+Search&aq=0&oq=os+x+on+ as well just that Apple makes it illegal in order to get Market share.. The reason why Mac can run native Windows is because it is using a subset of PC hardware,

If you decide to buy a Mac for running Windows, you will still have to get the same virus/spyware protection, and run into the same issues as a regular PC.

Now is a Mac worth buying for OS X?

I say: NO... for the following reasons...

QUALITY/PROBLEMS

Contrary to belief, Macs are not better quality. Apple also has been changing suppliers to try to "lower the price" and thus lowering quality. Even with the lower prices, Macs still cost more, they spend a higher percent of budget trying to make it look pretty, and marketing.

Sample of problems: Deleting your Data (Snow Leopard), Overheating Macbooks, OS X- not responding to keyboard, some units with 16bit screens, etc. Apple statistics are misleading since Mac users with problem machines are more likely to go out and buy a new computer than PC users. Apple is lowering prices which means you can expect lower quality than in the past. Apple had switched the manufacturers producing parts. OS X also has problems slowing down.

Repairs are more expensive than PCs since the IMac, Mac Mini are compact units, and Apple charges a premium for their services. Some repairs can be done by another repair service but the compact design of the computer causes problems.

With an IMac, if the problem is with the monitor, the whole computer would have to be brought in.

IMac and Mac mini lack expansion.

VIRUSES

Mac OS X has viruses (and significantly on the rise), a friend of mine has a virused Mac. As more users use Macs, more viruses will come out for it. Especially when users think "they are safe".

SECURITY

Mac OS X was hacked in 2006 less than 30 minutes, and within 2 minutes in a contest in 2008, and within 10 seconds in 2009. In 2008, Linux and Vista were not hacked until another day when restrictions were lowered. Vista was next, and then Linux. In 2009 Windows 7 fell shortly after the Mac but Linux was unscathed.

Macs are standardized with Cameras, if your Mac gets hacked, the hacker can turn on your camera with more ease.

Please Note: All OS's have vulnerabilities.

PRICE

A similar equipped PC is much cheaper to purchase than Mac. Lets use Dell (but you can compare with another PC Brand if you like)

**(LAPTOP)

Dell Inspiron Laptop Starting Price: $500

Ending Price: $500

15" Screen

CPU: 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo [5% slower]

Graphics: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD [Not as good/fine for general use[

Memory: 3GB DDR2 SDRAM [75% of ram)

Hard Drive: 320GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm (same)

**(DESKTOP)

PLEASE NOTE: I compare Apple Mac's vs Dells best deal. If you really want an all-in one the Dell all-in-one has more ram, wireless keyboard and mouse and equivalent to $400 for free making the Imac still more expensive when you matching specs. Personally I don't think the All-in-Ones are a good choice, and consider them overpriced, lack expandability and repairs both more expensive and require the entire computer.

PS: Apple knows that they need to make Macintosh look different than PC so all Macs except the Mac Pro will not have a tower option. Apple's low end lacks expandability but it makes the Mac "look different", if Mac had a tower for low-end, more people would realize the similarities between the two.

Dell: ($700)

CPU: 2.33 GHZ Dell Inspiron QUAD (4 Processor) CORE

SCREEN: 20inch Screen

MEMORY: 4GB Ram

HARD DRIVE: 500 GB hard Drive

OPTICAL DRIVE: 16x DVD/CD Read/Writer

GRAPHICS: ATI Radeon HD 512MB

http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=dddwra4&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&kc=desktop-inspiron-537s

The Mac Mini since it has no monitor, keyboard, mouse, very skimpy on options and setup and is not the best deal... The IMac is better price than the Mac Mini.

IMac ($1300)

CPU: 2.4 GHZ DUAL (2 Processor) CORE (SLOWER CPU)

SCREEN: 20inch Screen

MEMORY: (upgrade to) 4GB Ram (SAME)

HARD DRIVE: (upgrade to ) 320 GB hard Drive (LESS HARD DRIVE)

OPTICAL DRIVE: 8x DVD Reader/Writer (1/2 speed)

GRAPHICS: Nvidia Geforce 9400M (APPROX SAME BUT LESS MEMORY GAPHICS)

ADVANTAGES WINDOWS :

Aprox 90% of the market is Windows and most PCs have windows already pre-installed.

1) Some websites require Internet Explorer, to run IE on Mac you really get ies4osx which is the Windows version of IE running really buggy and illegal if you don't have a legitimate copy of Windows.

2) Supports more devices (printers and other things you hook into the computer).

3) More business software/games

4) Want the dock on OS X (Mac)? google/yahoo rocketdock, objectdoc.

5) Used by businesses.

ADVANTAGES LINUX :

1) FREE (most versions are)

2) Install software by either 1) Synaptic Package Manager, 2) Add/Remove 3) Opening a .deb or .rpm file (depending on distribution)

2) Like the Mac OS X effects? go yahoo/google COMPIZ FUSION which can do any cool effect a Mac can do and many ore....

I hate the whole PC vs Mac debate. Which one is better, depends on who is using it and what for, and that's all there is to it.

Personally, I build my own PC's, I don't buy premade computers. I pick out a case, motherboard, processor, memory, hard drives, ssd's, graphics cards, etc etc and I put it all together myself.

I have a PC in a full tower case with TRI-SLI setup, an overclocked 4.8ghz quad core processor, and 3 SSD's in RAID 0.

Why, because it's the best gaming machine I could build for the money. No Mac could come close to being more powerful than my PC for the same price, I built it for $1200 dollars and it blows away the equivalent priced mac.

So for me, PC is better.

For someone else that just wants to write an email, browse facebook and play flash games, a MAC might do them better.

It depends on what you want to use one for.

Maybe you happen to be a mobile app developer, in which case I would say get a Mac, then use Oracle virtual box to run windows so you can develop for EVERY platform, because running OSX in a VM is a PITA.

It's a contextual based statement. One is only better when you say "What is it for."

If you are a hard core gamer though, then PC is better than MAC hands down, because most games never get a MAC port and only exist on Windows or Linux. and you'll be needing to update graphics cards, memory etc, every 3 or 4 years to keep up with gaming demands.

In response to the ***** a bit above me who called many Windows OS users "stupid"

1. Have you ever tried to swap out parts of a mac book. It's pretty hard because they are all integrated together in a tight confined space.

2. Macs also have Intel 3000/ other Intel series of graphics, which cannot seem to be able to render 3d games correctly. To state they are good for games is a joke. Besides, almost every PC game is designed for the windows OS, It is the developers choice if the want to make it available to mac OS

3. Once again, I would like to see a macbook last a "lifetime". You would be lucky to see it work for more than 3 years without some issues. And then its either expensive repair, or go buy a new one. Stating that macs dont get viruses is beyond the point of ignorance, as they do. You are just not alerted to them as you are on Windows computers. And also, I don't know where you find a PC that is 10-15 percent cheaper than Mac, because if you do, even a 850 dollar PC will destroy a mac in performance. And PC's boot up slower because it takes a while to allow for full function. There is an option in BIOS to set a faster PC boot up time, but it is by no means healthy for it. Mac book makers evidently don't care about their technology, so they just let it slide.

4."The most powerful processor" is a full out lie, because my IBM think-pad has the same processor that a mac has. And in case you didn't know, an IBM think-pad is pretty old. Also, "The most powerful operating system". I mean cm-on, this isn't even worth reading its such garbage. Have you ever tried advanced video editing on a mac. Probably not, because its not possible. Large corporations use the Windows OS to perform advanced tasks because it is more powerful.

5. Once again, to call what some consider Windows greatest OS "garbage" is a risky move. Evidently multi-million dollar corporations are "stupid" because they bought the "garbage OS". Something about that sounds wrong to me.

6. Also, to call Windows "Pathetic copy-cats" is hilarious, because Mac was so far behind window they couldn't even right click until many years after Windows came out. And Mac has yet to catch up with Windows, yet alone produce this "God" of an OS

7. Lastly, my source comes from 6 years worth of Computer Engineering classes at Georgia Tech, your source is "Common Sense". I think we all know who wins that battle

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.pcboostcleaner.com

It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

OH MY GOD......I actually cannot believe so many people out there could be so stupid!

Okay, Firstly: I used to have a PC....I used it for most of my life, and now I use a Mac, so you CANNOT say I am biased because I have lived with BOTH of them.

But basically......MACS ARE BETTER. FACT.

1. you can't 'customise' Macs? Err....yes you can. Macs are MUCH easier to customise than a crappy old PC.

2. Macs DO have good games: world of Warcraft, SIMS, SPORE....Need I go on?

3.Yes, PC software IS much less expensive.....but what's the point of paying a cheap price for a load of crap? you might as well get the slightly more expensive (Macs are only 10-15% more expensive than a PC) and it will last you more than a year......A mac will last you a lifetime, whereas a PC will last a year....get a Virus...and then never be the same again. Personally I'd much rather use a system that DOESN'T get a million viruses a minute.....no thanks. And also I'd rather use a system that doesn't take about five hours to open up windows. I could've already written about seven pages on a mac by the time a PC loads up.

4. MACS have the newest, and BEST processors: just look at the Mac Pro: it has the Nahelem intel Xeon Processor........MACS have much more memory and disk drive space. And also....Mac OSX snow leopard has the most powerful operating system....Ever.....better than anything a PC could do in it's wildest dreams. HAH!

5. I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU SAID THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aren't you being a bit hypocritical? I THINK SO. The current mac operating system is the equivalent to windows 95 but with better graphics? You have got to be having a laugh, mate. Just look at Windows 7......still the same old crappy Windows, just, well better graphics. It's still just as slow, gets just as many viruses, but now it's got different, shinier buttons.....WOW! It's basically Windows trying to cover their crappy operating system to make it look better...but it's still the same old rubbish windows underneath. It's basically like giving an old lady millions of dollars on plastic surgery...but she still can't walk as fast and gets loads of diseases.

Oh and also, Windows are just pathetic copy-cats. They are currently losing business to apple. so they've released a Windows Phone to rival the iphone. Basically they have copied everything that is the iphone and put their crap operating system into it......I will DEFINITELY not be buying that.....my iphone is much better than that lousy piece of junk.

Oh. And one more thing: Window's is full of false promises. Just let the video do the talking:

Macs are stupid to get.

They are a "MAC" on the outside, but the inside has parts that anyone could buy.

It cost about $700 to get a prebuilt IMAC with a core 2 duo (crappy) and ddr2 ram (old) with 500gb hard drive

You could buy an ALREADY built PC (not even taking into consideration a custom built one) for about $200 that has an i5 which blows the core 2 duo out of the water. It can also use ddr3 which is the newest standard as of now.

Macs are for people that know nothing about computers and how much the individual parts cost and want to get ripped off.

All the best software are on the windows platform, and if you're a gamer it's even worse. No true gamers use a MAC because there are limited games on the OSX platform.

The people who get macs can't even name a reason why besides maybe something about performance or something idiotic as that. You can already tell they are ignorant and never had a good "PC".

Everytime I look up a mac and see how much it would cost to build an equivalent PC or even just buying a pre-built one that's the same. I see a big gap that's hundreds of dollars you're being ripped off for. Macs are for the computer illiterate people basically, people that don't know how to spend money wisely, and also to have limited availability to upgrade.

And yes the IMAC is a big laptop without a keyboard and bad graphics card. When people say that the MAC people get mad. BUT really what is the difference between the IMAC and a laptop besides it has no mobility and no keyboard attached. The IMAC has a laptop graphics card, laptop 204-pin ram (desktop is 240-pin), a Mobile graphics card that can barely support the resolution it uses. The only two things that are desktop compatible are the hard drive and MAYBE the cpu (they never say the exact CPU model it is. they give a vague statement such as just intel core 2 duo, they don't say the exact model number such as E660.)

"PC's" are the most customizable.
