Whenever I try starting certain ROMs in MAME, I get an error saying I'm missing a ROM or CHD file. What exactly is a CHD file and how do I find/make one?

A CHD file is a compressed image of the hard drive used in an arcade cabinet.
You need to download the CHD file for the particular ROM that needs it. Most ROM's in MAME don't need a CHD file.
CHD files need to be put in their own folders in your main Roms folder.
For example Killer Instinct uses a rom called kinst.zip and a hard disk file (CHD file) called kinst.chd. First the rom needs to be put (Still zipped!) into the main Mame roms folder. You then need to create a new folder in your roms folder called kinst and copy the kinst.chd (Not zipped!) file into it.
