i went to type something into my google search bar and it tried to guess what I was going to type and came up with the name of a porn site?? I regularly delete my history and cookies to keep my laptop working quickly. How can I check to backlog of sites after deletion? Is it still stored somewhere??

Help?

Open the browser and click "history" and it will show you every site that has been visited. This history can be deleted, but you should check it first. If you can't find anything in the history, you can check the cache files, which are located in various places depending on the browser you are using.

You can also do a search on your whole hard drive for all files ending in ".jpg" and then start checking the pictures that it finds. If they are porn, you can usually find out what site they came from by checking the file properties.

Porn-redirecting browser hijacks (which is what you have) can come from sites that aren't porn. You need to use Lavasoft Ad-Aware to get rid of the hijacker.

(hehe... I forgot about movies... those have file extensions of .mov, .wmv, .avi, .mpg, or .mpeg for most of them)

Note: I thought you said that Google took you to a porn site. It will almost never do that unless you actually are looking for porn. The suggestions that come up in the search box are based on what most people in the world are searching for, and those suggestions are coming from the Google server as you type, so they are not based on anything you did. If it's just the suggestions you are worried about, don't... you can't control that. You make it sound like you have a problem... you don't. If you do, then all my above suggestions apply, but it sounds pretty normal now that I read it again.

He may be telling the truth Google will try and auto fill what you are typing. To know for sure do a search on your C: drive for that websites name. If anyone has been on that site the search will come back with cookies for it. Then you can confront your cousin with the evidence, but don't be too harsh with them it will have been curiosity and nothing terrible I wouldn't make such a big deal out of it...if your cousin has looked at a porn site or too it is just normal pre-pubescent behaviour and nothing dangerous.... they will be really embarrassed about it all and probably never do it again anyway because of all the fuss you have made...

assuming he deleted the history

and assuming your using XP

click start

click search

click pictures, music or video

tick pictures and photos

click advanced options

click more advanced options

tick search system folders and hidden folders

this may take time depending on the amount of files on your pc

click search

let it continue til its done

then go to the top and click where it says 'size'

this will list them in size order

(basically you want the smallest ones at the top)

now go to the top left and click 'view'

then 'thumbnails'

you should now see all the images on your pc including all the little images and buttons that are used on the web pages

(sorry i cant remember the short way)

if you find something that looks like it came from a porn site

then right click on it and click properties

it will tell you the websit it came from

but remember he's growing up and its natural either get a netnanny program or change the settings on your search engine

dont have a go ... if you must say something then advise that viruses can kill the pc and they can come from porn

Actually, it is possible.

I would NOT advise you doing it. (especially since you are asking this question on answer.yahoo.com).

If you are interested in recovering these files once deleted from the .tmp registry, you first get educated on File Systems (DFS and FRS). Before you begin your design, you need to understand the scenarios for which these technologies (DFS Namespaces and DFS Replications) can be configured, and the interplay with FRS (File Replication Systems). (Basically, you'll be "hacking" your own computer!)

HOWEVER, I would not recommend doing this unless you know EXACTLY what you are doing - because, one mistake in the file system registry, and you'll be using your computer for a "fish tank".

I advise: just install a site-blocker, and move on. Unless he is downloading illegal porn, don't worry about it. (There recently was a sting by INTERPOL in Thailand/Germany for illegal porn being distributed via FRS tranmissions; I will not provide details, but it was horrific content - some police officers went to psychological councelling after seeing these pics/vids!!! If he is downloading this crap, then I personally will help you hack your files. However, being 11, I don't think he's smart enought to access these "snuff sites").

Otherwise, just install the blocker, and move on.

I would ask your Aunt and Uncle first. I have read several reviews that cautions parents about bringing kids under 13 due to intensity. They may be fine with it. As far as can you get in? Sure. Not a problem. They don't care. The ratings are guidelines for parents and movie goers. Only R and X are restricted age. Here's what was said at one review site: There is plenty of violence involving the forces of Good vs. Evil. Characters are shot and stabbed and killed. There is a single scene that depicts gore towards the middle/end of the movie. Parents of young or sensitive children should be aware.

visit www.scrubIT.com or google it. This is a great web filter that filters many inapproriate sites and other content you dont want children to access. Bear this in mind - i am 15 and although i dont access pornagraphy i know how to cover my tracks!!! Were not stupid. But anyway if you want to clear the google search bar too click tools>internet options>content>autocomplete>then uncheck all boxes and clear both options!!! Good Luck!!

THE BEST OPTION to see exactly what's he's been doing and searching is to install a background keyboard logger, this will store everything he types in a file, even email it to you if you want.

I'll give you a link to various keyboard loggers, there all shareware, buy one if you think it helps. There not expensive (30-50$) ,less than what you'll pay to a shrink for your cousin if he becomes gay or a rapist...

Good luck.

I'd just have a talk with him about it and tell him you don't appreciate your computer being used for "that sort of thing".

He's probably just curious and, let's face it, if he hadn't done it on your machine he'd probably gone round to a mate's and done it there.

Surprising, really, that he hasn't yet worked out how to cover his tracks, but he will before long.

Of course, it's always possible that he didn't go there intentionally but got led there from somewhere else . . .

Do check your machine for viruses & malware, won't you?

try going on "tools" tab above, click on internet options on general tab choose option 'settings' on browsing history and this will give you an option to look at ''view objects'' or ''view files'' this will then show pictures that have been stored in temp internet files regardless of if you delete your history files.

That happened to me once. It does not nessecarily mean someone was on that website. It was probably just adware.

And, even if he did, its perfectly natural. Just give him a talk, and dont get mad.
