Question:
Computer problem - crashing during games?
?

I play games and randomly, often very soon after entering the game world, my laptop freezes, but not completely. If you wait, you can still see the mouse jumping about once every 5 seconds. The sound stops as well and you just hear a skipping sound coinciding with the mouse movements. It stays like this indefinitely so I just have to hard reset the laptop (since I can't minimize/ task manager, nothing works) by holding down the power button. Happens on various games (GW2, Skyrim & more)

I've upgraded all of my drivers and repaired game installations but nothing has helped. I'm running a dell XPS 15 l502x with i7 2670qm, 6gb ram, 750 hdd Geforce 540m gfx.

Any advice would be great thankyou :)

Many laptops (and nearly all notebooks) don't have the guts to play games properly, or at all.

Example:

Skyrim Specs: (Video Graphics is where most machines fail the test)

You Do need a machine that meets these requirements for Skyrim.

Recommended

• Windows 7/Vista/XP PC (32 or 64 bit)

• Quad-core Intel or AMD CPU processor

• 4GB System RAM

• 6GB free HDD (Hard disk drive) space

• DirectX 9.0c compatible NVIDIA or AMD ATI video card with 1GB of RAM: Nvidia GeForce GTX 260 or higher; ATI Radeon HD 4890 or higher

• DirectX compatible sound card

• Internet access for Steam activation

It could be a gfx problem or a virus. Get an updated virus scanner and scan your system. If that doesn't solve it then most likely it's the graphics card. I could be wrong though
