Everything will stop when it goes to sleep it will NOT keep downloading. To shut this off though go to control panel and choose power options (not 100% sure if its the same location on windows vista) you may need to click switch to classical version (usually on the left side) and it will pop up a menu you of what it will do after X amount of idle time. Like turn off monitor, turn off hard drive, and go into stand by. Just change everything to always on (check monitor because that is not nessecary) and you will be set.

The path should be Control Panel > Power Options > System Settings

the files you are downloading (might) still be there the next time you turn on your system, however they cannot download while system is in sleep mode. If you really want to get that file overnight, try leaving your laptop on. You might also try to close the screen, but it might bring your computer into standby mode.

ummmm no. When its sleep mode it wont continue downloading. Just leave it and just shut down the monitor. Just leave your downloads overnight.

You can't turn off your computer. To fix this:

To prevent your computer from turning itself off, turn off sleep and hibernate.

NoteIf you're using a mobile PC that is running on battery power, preventing the mobile PC from turning itself off can result in loss of data if the battery runs out of power.

To prevent your computer from turning itself off

1. Open Power Options by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Power Options.

2. On the Select a power plan page, click Change plan settings under the selected plan.

3. On the Change settings for the plan page, click Change advanced power settings.

4. On the Advanced settings tab, expand Sleep, expand Sleep after, click On battery or Plugged in (or both), click the arrow, and then click Never.

5. Expand Hibernate after, click On battery or Plugged in (or both), click the arrow, and then click Never.

If you also want the display to stay turned on, expand Display, expand Turn off display after, click On battery or Plugged in (or both), click the arrow, and then click Never.

6. Click OK, and then click Save changes.
