Question:
Strange Lag in 3D applications?
2010-09-14 12:37:39 UTC
What is the second cause of lag in 3D applications after the graphics cards? My pc's problem is that basically I am not able to hit anyone in multiplayer and in some cases like counter strike single player too(can't even hit bots from a distance of 2-3 m) and all the graphics moving in a weird way. Dead CPU? or faulty PSU? No viruses(checked with AVG and Norton) and my registry is defragged and its errors are fixed too but same weird lag is always there despite proper fps so there is definately nothing wrong in my graphics card. The problem occuring is all the movements are lagging and the objects move in a very weird way compared to other normal pcs playing those games, I saw it in youtube and the performance level is very different and higher than mines.I have got a 8400 GS and get 90 fps average in a game but still not able to perform stunts in it and getting a strange unknown lag, its ocurring in all 3D applications including GTA SA and even hitting players in counter strike. I even tried running the applications in windowed mode but no difference. So what can be wrong? Dead CPU or faulty PSU causing it? is there any known cause? My registry is defragged and the errors were fixed too. Btw I am getting this lag since 1 year and my friends say that there is no "fix" to it and the only solution is buying a new pc. I am sure that there is some faulty hardware causing it and can be replaced easily. Any suggestions?

well the 2 other guys said slow sever or being far away from the server but since your haveing the issues in single player as well. i would say that it is not the issues 90fps with a 8400gs i have a 256 8400 and its a crappy i would try buying a better vid card and or atleast trying another one before you say that this issue is not related to that . hope this helps btw look at zotac.com they got some nice cards

Dead CPU? Your computer wouldn't be doing any more than if it was turned off.

Faulty PSU? Not likely. that would affect everything - video, hard drive, audio, etc.

Remember, 3D is 2 complete pictures. You need about 1mbps path speed for that, and unless you're close to the server you're not going to get much more than about 600kbps.

sparkling out the interior of your pc with compressed (canned) air - be beneficial to coach the pc off and unplug first. Then improve your video card. The video card isn't efficient adequate for many 3-D applications.

You are far away from the server and/or have a slow network connection... See if anyone else on that connection (Including yoruself) has any downloads or other intensive things running...
