My daughter has made a movie on her laptop using windows Moviemaker, of all our special family photo's for her dad for father's day. She copied it onto a memory stick and then put it on the home computer so we could burn it onto a dvd. But we just can't do it!!!! We've been on Nero and first of all we're not sure which program to use and then whichever one we've tried, it just comes up saying there's nothing on the memory stick to burn. When we dragged on to Nero it said it couldn't add it because the format was not recognised. We've been sat here now for 4 hours!! I can't phone and ask my husband who works away cos it's a surprise for him! Please help! Thank you anyone!

Hello, firstly, what a very nice idea for farthers day!!!!

Anyway, You need to 'Export' the movie... once you have it opened in moviemaker, instead of going File -> save, go to the Save Movie Under Finshing Movie....

This will save it as A movie, not WMM...

Then, put it back on your stick & Burn the movie, not the WMM file onto a DVD-R...

Hope This Helps.... PS: if you have MSN, i would be glad to do a 'remote assistance' and help you...

You cannot burn a movie onto a dvd by using a movie made by moviemaker and have it play like a regular dvd. Moviemaker exports the video into a format called WMV.

There are two options, 1 of them is what I think you want. You could burn it as a data file but that would mean you can only watch it using a computer. You could burn it as a VCD (option in nero is Burn Video File or Make VCD). Making a VCD will allow the disc to only play on VCD players (not many DVD players can do this).

The option that I am assuming you want is to just make it a regular DVD that can play on any DVD player. This cannot be done using a movie made by Moviemaker because it needs to exported as an image file (.iso) OR as video files (.vob etc).

The easiest way I can think of is to go to www.ulead.com. Download Videostudio 10 Trial. Open a new project. (File ---> New project). Go to the video tab on the top. Click browse on the right and look for the video you made in the .WMV format (that you said is on the memory stick). Click ok and you should see a thumbnail of it on the right. Drag that onto the storyboard at the bottom. Go to the top and click SHARE. And pick the first option (which I believe is Make DVD). Then click next and next (unless you want to make a menu). Now keep clicking next untl you get to a screen that says image file on the left. Check that box and uncheck the box next to BURN. On the line that says image file, browse to where you wanna save it (desktop). And then click BURN at the bottom. Once its done, open nero, choose BURN IMAGE FILE. Select the ISO that you just made on your desktop. Select burn again (this time in nero). Then you're done.. let me know if you need more help

first off im assuming that you published the file in movie maker after it was completed, so it has a file extension of .avi or .mpeg, if not you will have no luck burning it to a dvd or cd. and with nero you should be making a vcd or super vcd with a CD or maker your own movie DVD option. just make sure that the file can be played in windows media player before you ry burning again, if you can watch it on that then im at a loss for words except to try another burning program, and if it doenst play then i suggest publishing the file again in windows movie maker. hope that helps.

Unfortunatly, you can't just burn that staight to a DVD and stick it in your DVD player....

First you need to convert the file into a format recognized by DVD players. Then you can burn the converted file onto a DVD for use in a DVD player.

You will need a special program to convert this file...such as WinAVI or something comparable.

For a step by step guide, and any other help you may need visit this link:

http://www.afterdawn.com/faq/convert_video_to_dvd/how_do_i_convert_wmv_files_to_dvd.cfm

You will need to purchase WinAVI as i believe the trial version leaves a water-mark on the picture.

Hope that helps.

Go onto the internet go to a web site " i view media" and down load this program either a freedown load or a trial for one month. Run the program browse your hard drive for your movie that you made and import it to your new program and copy as a dvd to show on all dvd's.

You can open movie maker and your new program on your desk top and drop and drag your movie to get it imported.Good Luck

You should be able to burn your project directly through Windows MovieMaker.

If the file is in a MovieMaker format (.mswmm) though, Nero WON'T recognise it. You'll have to save in another format in MovieMaker first. (By "finishing" the project by selecting "Save to my computer", rather than File>Save Project).

Hope this helps.

THAT IS QUITE A PROBLEM, FIRST GO TO MY COMPUTER AND OPEN THE MEMORY STICK FILE. THEN COPY THE FILE TO YOUR PC'S HARD DRIVE.AT THAT POINT YOU SHOULD BE ALBE TO FIND OUT THE FORMAT, THERE SHOULD BE LESS PROBLEMS LOADING THE FILE IN NERO FROM THE HARD DRIVE INSTEAD OF A MEMORY STICK. YOU MAY HAVE TO CONVERT THE FILE TO SOMETHING LIKE AN MPEG FILE

If you have movie maker on your home pc, open it and click on import video. When the window opens, choose the disk number assigned to your usb port that the stick is in, transfer your movies files. It should be set up as a project in movie maker. Select finish, save to CD, and your world should be a happier place. Good luck.
