I need help finding a file on my computer?

I've lost an important file that's only been edited 2 days ago. Cant remember for the life of me where it is. Ive run a file search (by pressing ctrl + f and searching) and a search for all word documents edited within the last week but still no joy. Its not recent enough to come up on my recent documents in the startup menu.

Can I bring up every file edited within the last week?

you can try a better search by Start Menu>Search and type it in, takes a while but will give you all of them, and if you accidentally deleted it, there are ways to recover it, you can find a tutorial here:

1. Click Start

2. Click Search

3. Choose "Documents (word processing, spreadsheet, etc.)"

4. Choose "Within the last week"

5. In the search box, put only an *.

6. Change the View to "Details"

7. Sort the search results by file type by clicking the heading "Type"



All the word documents created or edited in the past week should be together and easy to sift through. Good luck!!

you can check your recycle bin incase you accidentally deleted it. if your using vista you can go into any windows explorer folder (not internet explorer) then you type in the bar above "computer" then press enter it will then come up with your storage's such as "c:\" and/or "d:\" do not click on either of them buy there will be a little search place in the top right corner type in their a little bit of what the file was called then search through them if it's not finable using that it must have been somehow wiped of your computer... hope this helps :D

Are you searching everywhere on your computer or just doing it folder by folder? Check your browsing option there you just need to select MyComputer. If you still can't find it you might have hit a wrong button when you last edited it.

Without a file name nor the file type (I presume it is a .doc file) I would try using Windows Explorer.

In Windows Explorer, you can categorize each file type by folder.
