Just curious which desktop environment everyone likes the best. I always have enjoyed KDE, but i don't have a specific reason. Anybody got a compelling reason for using one over the other?

I prefer KDE.

I used to have two compelling reasons, but now the only compelling reason is the file picker dialog in Qt vs GTK+. I really dislike the breadcrumb-trail navigation in GTK+; I much prefer having an address bar and a filesystem tree that stay in sync.

It used to be that Gnome also has an okay mechanism for modifying the Gnome menu, then they took that out so that the only way to modify the menu was by hand-hacking an XML config file, and that's when I said goodbye to Gnome. They've since gotten a good menu editor, but the file picker dialog still keeps me away.

A persistent non-compelling reason to stay with KDE is my preference for the general look of Qt vs GTK+.

Haven't used Linux for a while, but I liked Gnome, might try out KDE with the new one though.

I desire GNOME for it relatively is intuitive menus and straightforward visual allure. KDE actual has extra bells and whistles. i like it relatively is widgets like comedian strips and bouncy balls, however the menu and device tray are no longer elementary to apply with the aid of their similarity to abode windows. It additionally runs slower on my laptop than GNOME.
