Make sure your IDE cable is properly seated. Make sure the UDE cable is not damage. Attempt to boot from a boot floppy. If it boots at the A:\ type in C: . If the C: prompt comes up check o see if your Windows Dir is present.

I am betting on the IDE cable. Move the CD IDE cable to the Primary IDE chamnnel and try it.

Check the orientation of the hard disk cable between the hard disk and the mobo. Red edge needs to go to pin-1 of the ribbon cable connector at both ends.

Check the jumper settings - make sure the disk is set to be 'master'.

Check the BIOS sees the disk drive as the master on the first IDE bus... not the second bus. If so, swap it to the other IDE socket on the mobo.

If all of those are OK and it still doesn't work, sounds like your on-board disk controller has failed. You'll need a new mobo... and because of the age it'll probably need a new CPU and memory too as you will find it hard to get a mobo that runs old RAM and CPU.

And teh reality is that (even though you don't want to hear it) it may be cheaper to dump the base unit and buy a new one. Sad isn't it?

Hi,

It doesn't work that way. It's always advised to install the operating system in your own machine where you want to use. This is because the OS installs many hardware drives which is dependent on the motherboard. If you install the OS in hard drive using different machine and put the HDD in another machine it will not work.

sounds like there could be a fault with the hard disk controller on that motherboard, not worth fixing if the machine is old since would cost more to fix.. u could proberly get a 2nd hand motherboard or install a IDE controller card and use the PCI slot

i would advise resetting the cmos/bios to default and reset all the details this might fix it.

in this occasion, a Disk I/O blunders means that your computing gadget can not talk jointly with your problematic diskcontinual or does not discover what this is finding for while booting up. the flexibility outage would have broken the hardware or (if no longer broken the hardware) in effortless terms brought about some localized corruption to the report gadget, yet in the two case, you would be unable to apply your contemporary OS installation to proceed. you ought to choose to have somebody make an archival replica of each and every of the data on the disk in the previous you wipe it and reinstall your OS.

Probably not setup properly in BIOS.

Enter the BIOS at boot time and set the HDD to auto detect, that will almost certainly fix it.
