Under toolbars, my quick launch does have a check next to it.

I can't find any program or file to drag there from My Computer or Windows Explorer.

And I've even tried control panel>desktop themes>pointer sounds>visuals. Many other icons are here, but not the desktop icon.

All the above ideas I read to try

Yes, The third answerer is correct in his help and I completely agree with him. Though, if you want to have that icon at any cost do this:

Manual steps to re-create the Show Desktop icon on the Quick Launch toolbar

The Show Desktop icon is not an ordinary program shortcut. If the icon is deleted, the procedure for re-creating the icon is not obvious. To manually re-create the Show Desktop icon, follow these steps:

1. Click Start , click Run, type notepad, and then click OK.

2. In Notepad, type the following text on individual lines:

[Shell]

Command=2

IconFile=explorer.exe,3

[Taskbar]

Command=ToggleDesktop

3. On the File menu, click Save As, and then save the file to your desktop as Show Desktop.scf.

Note Notepad might automatically append a .txt extension to the file name. Remove this extension if present. The file name should be Show Desktop.scf.

The file must now be moved to the correct folder in the user profile to appear in the Quick Launch toolbar. To manually do this, use one of the following methods.

Method 1

1. Use the mouse to drag the Show Desktop.scf icon to the Quick Launch toolbar or another location where you want the shortcut to appear.

2. Click Move Here.

Method 2

1. Use Windows Explorer to locate the following folders:

Microsoft Windows 95 and Microsoft Windows 98

Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Microsoft Windows NT, Microsoft Windows 2000, and Microsoft Windows XP

C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Note Username refers to the account name where you want to put the icon.

2. Use the mouse to drag the Show Desktop.scf file to the Quick Launch folder.

3. Click Move Here.

Hope this helped.

Just drag it into the quicklaunch area. But if you don't see the quick launch area, try unlocking the taskbar and you should see a vertical column of dots that is used for resizing. just to the right of that area you should be able to drag the icon and get and you should get a little black bar that shows the placement of the icon you are dropping. If however, there are two sets of these side-by-side, you will want to drag the right one to the right to shorten your taskbar size and enlarge your Quicklaunch size.

If you're wanting to put the Show Desktop icon back onto the Quicklaunch bar you can try the following:

Open Notepad and enter the following text:

[Shell]

Command=2

IconFile=explorer.exe,3

[Taskbar]

Command=ToggleDesktop

Save the new file as Show Desktop.scf then drag and drop the icon on the Quick Launch bar or whatever location you want the shortcut to appear.

I have Windows XP Service Pack 3. My OS and Vista are similar. When you right click on the Task bar there should be option Show the Desktop. But, if that option is not shown, download TuneUp 2009 Utilities. When you open program, go to: Solve problems --> TuneUp Repair Wizard. Then find the option you want and FIX! I hope i helped.... :]]

Okay, the icon that minimizes everything at once? Don't worry about it, from now on just hold down the "Windows" key (between CTRL and Alt) and at the same time tap the D key...

drag it to the quicklaunch area of the toolbar -or- search your computer for a quick launch folder and drag it into there.
