You are working for a small IT company that retails computer parts and accessories as well as providing technical service to customers that purchases equipment from the company. The company also employs software designers and programmers. Your responsibilities are to ensure that all computer equipment and software within the organization in maintained in working order. The following are complaints you have received from employees in your company.

1.The accounts clerk Jack has made a complaint stating that the spreadsheet program is displaying “funny characters” and is not allowing him to save his work.

It sound like Jack does not know how to:

a.) react when he sees funny characters. He should move the cursor to the cell, with funny characters, select format then select columns then select autofit selections

b.) If he is opening different versions of the same file Excel won't save files with the same name as open files.

c.) When last did he run an anti-virus scan that could also effect the saving of files.

You have two choices help him on his PC and see if his complaints are justified or tell the boss that Jack doesn't know how to work the spreadsheet program and must have lied on his CV.

it could be a problem with the program you are using. try expanding the column width, if its a computer thats on all the time, reboot it. run antivirus (i use AVG), anti-malware (Microsoft Defender), etc. or if it's not too much trouble, try porting or opening the spreadsheet in another program. I am starting my own company and am planning on using OpenOffice. It's an Open Source (free!!!!) set of programs comparable to Microsoft Office and it will open all MS Office files. It may work to get around this issue. Good luck

In this case I will check the installed macros, if there is any evidence that macro is altered by an unknown virus.

I 'll back all the data and install a good Virus cleaner.

If this would not help, i reinstall and search the whole HD for viruses with an updated Virus Scanner.
