Keyboard Drivers Not Working Please Help. Im about to chuck the damn computer out the window!?

Ok I've looked up and down the internet for a solution to this: Here is my plight:

I have an HP M9040N running Windows Vista (32Bit) and the Wireless keyboard and Mouse that came with the computer have stopped working. The keyboard and mouse is HP. When i say they stopped working, what i mean is that when you go to type on the keyboard it makes the keyboard and mouse freeze and i have to unplug and reinsert the chip that sends the signal to them. Only the mouse works without freezing anything. So i go to device manger and i see that the HID Keyboard Device has a yellow Exclamation. Also under properties there is an error message saying: "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory (Code 38) What im trying to do is fix this problem. The mouse and keyboard work on my other HP so i know its not the the hardware that is the problem. These are my failed attempts to fix it:
-Uninstalled driver and reinstalled.
-Deleted device and rebooted and reinstalled the device and driver.
-Tried to update driver but computer says the best driver is already installed and working.
-Scanned computer for viruses with AVG (no viruses found)
-Used CC Cleaner to analyze registry and fixed all the issues.
-Downloaded keyboard and mouse drivers off Hp website for my model (did not work)

The only thing keeping me from swiping the effing harddrive is because of two programs for work that i have on here. So...if anyone can help i would appreciate it greatly

The fault lies no longer with the keyboard yet with Win98 self. in my opinion for me, an incredible thank you to diagnose and blame homestead windows is besides the pc utilizing a Linux LiveCD (attempt Ubuntu). If Linux works, then homestead windows is responsible. If it doesnt, then your hardware is responsible.

You seem like you know what your talking about technically, so thats good. you've done everything i would do, if you can't google the problem and find an answer, and you've done everything you said you have. i would just go buy a cheap keyboard and mouse from walmart, i never liked wireless peripherals
