After I defragmented my c drive, the report stated that a certain AVI file could not be defragmented. The file size was 7.2 GB. I figured that I would delete that file and get a lot more free space on my hard drive. However, this file cannot be found anywhere on my computer. Search doesn’t find it. When I tried going directly to the path of the file which was stated in the defragment report, it would not let me access that path. The beginning of the path was c:\userdata, but access was denied. In addition, the properties stated ‘folder is empty’. Can someone please explain what is going on here?

I can't explain exactly what's going on but I had a similar problem. I got round it by copying all files in that directory (or folder) barring the ones I wanted to remove, to a new folder.

I then deleted the [original] folder, renamed the new folder to that of the one I'd deleted & it did the trick. The new folder needs to be at the same level as the one you delete (ie: in the same path position, not on the desktop etc).

If you have problems deleting the folder containing the problem file, check the folder properties (right click the folder & choose properties from the drop-down), and make sure that it's not read only.

there is no way ONE avi file can even be that big..

when you receive the report saying fragmented files are found, it gives you the file size of the ENTIRE directory

i have a 17 fragments in my documents and settings; that folder is 8 gigabytes. it just means that within that amount of space you have a certain amount of fragments

it does NOT mean that those fragments take up that much space

its possible you might have some extra temporary files.. use ccleaner from ccleaner.com

i happened to me,

well,i detected it by going to every folder, and know it's size, then, folder by folder,i detected it ,it was in my Temporary Internet Files, the folder was hidden,so i showed it by performing these steps:tools tap>folder options>view tap,i checked the SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS,and went to the folder and deleted it.

NOTE: go to;right click in a blank space(area)>arrange icons by:select SIZE,select also SHOW IN GROUPS.that will help you ALOT.

you did'nt understand anything i'v said,thats OK!

so,good luck!!
