Where are Emails kept on my hard drive?

My computers crashed but i need my emails onto my USB drive. So i booted up Linux, opened my C drive and USB drive but where are my emails on the c drive.

Partly depends on what your email software is. If Outlook Express, do a search for files with a .DBX extension; if Outlook, look for a file Outlook.PST.



Again these are hidden files so if you search via Start => Search, make sure you select the option that lets you search among system files (Advanced options).

Your emails may or may not be stored on your HD, depending on what software you have installed on your computer.



If you use Yahoo mail, MSN mail, etc., or a mailbox provided by your ISP, your mail is stored on their server.



If you have a 3rd party email program like YPOPS! or another "open source" program, they download your email to your HD using Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express and can be accessed through those programs.



If your computer crashed, you will probably have to do a Master Boot Record repair before you can boot to your Windows OS.



Since you're now back on-line, you should be able to locate your email through whatever program the Linux OS uses for email.

ok here is what i do when i reinstall my os go to you windows explorer, windows key + E then go to your c drive then documents and settings then your user name now you have to show your hidden files by going to tools properties and then folder options look for the radio button that says show hidden files and go back to your user documents there should be file called application data open this up and look for the folder for your email program just burn this to a cd after you reinstall and have reinstalled your email program go back and copy this folder back into your application data folder and open your email program all your settings will be there with out having to set up your email agian as well as all yoru saved email

How do you get your emails? If you have to be online to read email that they are save by your internet provider for example if you got [e-mail] then you go into yahoo.com and just log in.

Everything you ever deleted is still on but unless you are a real computer expert you can't find them.

if your talking like yahoo emails, they dont save to the cpu, their saved yahoo's server im guessing.

Login to your mail ID from diffrent computer....You will Find them in your Inbox!!!
