Use Ultimate Boot CD http://ultimatebootcd.com/ to reset admin password. Acer will have application to make recovery disk. Try to find first, if the file corrupt, you call Acer to buy recovery disk. For Vista installation steps, you can follow http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918884

I had to reinstall vista but I had a disk. I have seen boot disks for vista and xp on the Internet for download. If you can get a set of boot disks, you might be able to get to the c:\windows\(what ever) directory and execute the setup program. 98 and xp usually were in the c:\windows\options directory in some pre-installs.

Just make sure you have your registration number or you will have to buy a new disk (the price has gone down a little). You should repartition and reformat your hard drive when prompted, to start out clean.

After all that, you still don't have your display drivers, sound card drivers, mouse drivers, and system board updates and drivers unless you have those Cd's. They might be included in the setup software or you might be able to download them later.

ALWAYS protect the Cd's that come with your computer with your life. The situation you are in now is the reason why. Replacements are never free.

Good luck

try system restore and if it is turned on just select a date that is close to the day you bought it

click the start menu

then all programs

then accessories

then system tools

then system restore

did not see the password part

maybe clearing the cmos may help but i don't think so

so maybe try downloading P.H.L.A.K. it is a linux operating system that you can run live off of a cd ( download the iso file then burn it as a iso image and make sure you select to make the cd bootable) and it has some programs for cracking windoze passwords ( not sure which program you will need to use so if you can still find P.H.L.A.K. then you will need to read up all you can on all the password cracking tools on it and there are many programs on this so you may need to try a few differents ones before you have any luck)

it would take less time to run out and buy a new windoze disk and reformat the drive and install it but in my humble opinion

READ THESE LINKS AND SEE WHAT YOU ARE WILLING TO DO

Hey, Not much you can do with Vista unless you go out and buy it. Sorry.

As for the password bit, log into your account and try going to start -> (in the text box type) 'Control userpasswords2' (without the ') then press ctrl+Enter.

You should then have a window open that displays all the users. There, you can reset the administrator password.

Hope this helps.

Pop in the recovery disc that came with your computer at start up (if you don't have one then maybe you can request one from the manufacturer). You won't need to know the admin password because it will just erase everything. If you can't get the recovery disc then you may have to buy Windows XP or Vista.

Having an acer myself, they usually have you make a set of discs, but to do it easily use the vista install cd and the CD-Key on ur laptop. The software given by Acer has a lot of unusable junk! That is the only thing I know of.

My laptop came with Vista Home installed - no CDs. I wanted them badly enough to contact the manufacturer and pay for the CDs which will restore my laptop as it was when I received it.

The version that came with your laptop was probably an OEM - one license deal. Without a valid, purchased CD, you are out of luck. Microsoft has a myriad of ways to catch piracy and I don't think you want that.

This is EXACTLY what i wanted to do, except i did it on a laptop, so heres how i did it and i think it'll work for you on a pc. step 1, open acer empowering technology (commonly found under start menu), step 2, click on the picture of a disc that says "acer recovery management", if you run your mouse over it, step 3, when the window opens it should say " acer eRecovery managment at the top, at the bottom in sort of the middle it should say "restore" click on it, step 4, when you click on restore it will bring you to a page with several options, one of them ( i think its the top one ) says " Restore system to factory default" click it and follow the rest of what it says.

Note- BY DOING THIS YOU WILL LOSE EVERYTHING AND HAVE TO START OVER AGAIN FROM SQUARE 1.

hope i helped!

Actually you can download a hacked version of Vista and get a key finder, but that causes alot of problems, Go to a PC store and buy a vista disk, then put the disk in and it will help you from there.

You should have got a disk if you bought the laptop new. If you didn't call the company and ***** and complain untill you get on.

Also, on almost all laptops there is another partition made where a copy of everything original is made, and you can copy it over to your current partition and replace everything. should be just like when you bought it.?

P.S Vista rocks, all the haters have never tried it. Works with everything I have thrown at it, much faster then XP looks great, much more reliable.

there are 3 ways to reinstall vista.

1- if u have the origional backup CD and u dont have this one

2- when the computer starts press F11 and the vista boot menu will show up and asks u if u want to install vista

3- from start-programs-accessories-system tools- restore and backup (that is if u already updated your vista from microsoft and there u can follow the instructions on the screen.

In you E technology tool bar is your recovery section...You need to create a password I suggest 000000 easy to remember and in hint 6 zeros to help you remember it.

Do a destructive recovery and you are back to factory settings.

e-mail me if you need extra help

eccentric_daughter@yahoo.ca

I work in a tech center setting up computers and restoring them when they need to be reset.

Another suggestion is to boot into safe mode go to user accounts delete the administration password from there

Good Luck

lol can you get into any other account on the vista? because if you can get into a different account you can change the administrators password without knowing what it was before.

If you don't have the disk then you can't re-install it. Anyway if you have other disks like windows xp disks, then install that on your computer because VISTA SUCKS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it has sooooooooo many bugs and when i install updates sometimes my computer crashes and i had to reinstall my computer COMPLETLEY, and I had to do this twice!

If you don't have the disc, then that is not an option for you. You have to keep your current installation.

There are tools available that can change or remove the password from accounts on the computer.

On my Acer there is a recovery partition which you can choose when the computer starts. After its boots the recovery partition it should prompt you to reinstall Windows.

As long as you dont care if all is deleted, get XP Pro instead. It uses way less resources and is more widely compatible and reliable. Vista is a failure.

Don't do it, Vista SUCKS ****.

Download Ubuntu and install that. It's gonna blow you away, being the fast, stable, safe operating system it is. It's free, and isn't affected by viruses.
