How can I make it possible to transfer big files from a remote computer to mine through Internet? Can I do it with Bitorrent or anyone can tell me other possible software? The remote computer is far away so LAN network is not an option. Thank you?

Hi republic p,

I use Google Talk myself. When I have to do a quick transfer from one computer to the other.

I have 4 account on google talk so that makes it easy, BUT, you DO NOT have to have more then one for it to work. You can load google talk on each computer and sign in under the SAME account on each computer and then PM/IM that name from the other account and send the file. Also is has unlimited file transfers, so if you wanted to send a 300meg program from one computer to the other in the house, you can, or across the counrty (as long as that person has google talk)

Hope this helps

Mail attachments are all well and good, but what if your connection times out while it is uploading? Your browser will appear to be perpetually sending the file but nothing happens. Check with the webmail services whether they can resume interrupted uploads.

You can also use free sharing services such as Rapidshare. No, you do NOT need to share the files, when you upload them you get a link to the file, and you don't have to share the link. I use Rapidshare because the uploader tool shows the progress of my upload, instead of me just sitting there watching the browser spinning icon and guessing when it will complete. The only catch with Rapidshare is that there is a filesize limit, so with larger files you have to zip them and then split them.

If your computer is always online, you can also host the file on your computer, using an ftp server or an irc fileserver. Technically you could also torrent it, but depending on various factors this may not be very efficient.

Edit: Actually "Wata" may be right, depending on the situation, maybe you should just own up to it and give it back and let them decide how to fix it. But, if you've got it in my mind to do this::: Side note: Personally, i've had good results with AVG-Free, just for reference. To you problem: This is probably not the best medium for troubleshooting this. Unstalling the software may have created some kind of issues with permissions, whatnot... BUT, i would suggest first scheduling the hard drive for a scan for errors(if you can) (you don't need to scan for physical errors, just file system errors). right click it in my computer, go to properties, tools tab, scan... check the "fix file system errors box", clear the "scan for bad sectors" box (these phrases may be slightly different that i said, but you should get the idea), restart, run the scan and see where you are from there. You may contact me (via messenger would probably be the best for helping you, if you can). I would like to help you get this resolved. And personally, what you described doing does not sound like you "screwed up". You're a victim of circumstance, it's not your fault, computers are flaky, some flakier than others. Contact me.

Open up a Lycos mail account. They allow unlimited size attachments.

www.lycos.com

Of course the person you are sending to has to have a lycos account also. It's all free and works very well. Just start the loading of attachment when you go to bed. Wake up and it will be ready to send no matter the size.
