Vista has 'elevated' admin protection, even if logged into an admin account you still do not have admin rights to system files and programs, to get admin rights to task manager: Start > All Programs > Accessories, right-click Command Prompt > Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click Continue. At the command prompt, type taskmgr.exe Task Manager will now run with full admin privileges ps: whenever using a program, its always best to right click on the icon and check whether it has an option to 'run as administrator' (including your browsers) it stops alot of problems that vista users experience :)

Then you either aren't an admin on the pc, or a virus has taken hold of it.
