You need to download and install the Microsoft Office compatibility pack:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=941b3470-3ae9-4aee-8f43-c6bb74cd1466&displaylang=en

When Microsoft released Office 2007, it introduced several new file types which could take advantage of embedded content. These new file types took the standard extension and added an 'x' to the end: for example, the standard Microsoft Word '.doc' extension became the '.docx' extension for Word 2007.

Fortunately, Microsoft released a TOTALLY FREE compatibility update to allow older versions of Office to open the newer files. That is the compatibility pack I provided the link to above.

Download the file and install it and you will be able to open any of the newer Office 2007 files in your older version of Office. Once installed you'll never have to worry about receiving Office 2007 files again... they'll just automatically open in your older version of Office.

It's really that easy! :)

Well yes you can use the compatablity pack or if you don't have Microsoft office you can download openoffice at www.openoffice.org that will do the exact same thing for free. It will also allow you to create and save files in the 2007 format as well as the 2003 formats.

I've had this problem with projects before. Good luck. Also don't try to use a program such as Adrive.com to transfer a 2007 format powerpoint, it comes out as a zip file with no power point. Had to have my laptop brought to school to hand in my presentation. :)

Good luck with your project.

This is a Microsoft Word 2007 file. In order to open it with Word 2003, you will need to download the compatibility pack or use 2007 to open it.

Power Point will not open this file.

It's a Word 2007 document, not a Powerpoint document. With the compatibility pack, you can open it in Word 2003.

*Or* Just go to www.zamzar.com and upload your file there. Just choose to change it to a ".doc", enter your email, and in less than 5 min they will send you an email with a link to the converted file. Download that and you should be ok. Though If not tell it to convert to ".ppt", then it should work...

You need Office 2007 to open it. Or you can try www.docx2doc.com this website to convert it to Doc form.
