My child is computer savvy. I have a Dell laptop with Window XP as the operating system. I set up parental control for his account, so he can't serve on the web freely. However, he can get into my account on his own. He messes at the "starting the computer" stage, so he can get into my account without typing the password. Automatically, the password is changed back to the previous one. When I try to log into my account, typing in the correct password, then the computer pops up this statement - hint, your previous password.
Help please!!!

Sadly, it is possible for people to get on to the admin account without knowing the password. In fact, there are videos on youtube that teach that. Though I cannot help with this too much, I can say this. Ground the child and then hide the laptop when not using it. =P

Personally I think a child should have the right to learn about the world freely, limiting them only makes them want to find the dirty nasty stuff your trying to hide from them.

but here is the ansew your looking for

change the password twice, this way the previous password is unknown. Also check what applications are installed. He may have installed a program that can find out you passwords and remove them. Also remove any software that you have no idea about. If it doesn't look like a game or used for internet or an office suit get rid of it

things to keep that you may not be sure of

Adobe Acrobat or reader

JAVA

Shockwave

Mozilla Firefox

Active X

OpenOffice or MS office

also limit his time on the computer, remove the battery and the power cord so he needs to go to you to use it. Hide it or lock it up so he cant use them when your not around

He's obviously smart enough to not mess up the computer, let him surf the web freely.

Nothings going to scar him for life on it.

Or unplug the router when leave, and tell him that you put a program on it that doesnt let him access the router. And hell be too busy trying to get into the computer, to check the cords. o.O
