I want to have a better overall desktop computer performance. But I'm not going to buy a new CPU or motherboard. Perhaps I will buy additional hard disk for storage, additional memory, or applying any hardware technology supported by my current CPU / motherboard, as well as installing any software applications for this purpose. Do any of you know any websites/URLs that contains any information on this matter? By the way, my computer has Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz and the motherboard is ASRock P4VM800 ( http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=P4VM800&s=478 ). Any help is greatly appreciated!

One way to help a bit is to set up a seperate swap file(page file) partition on your hard drive 2.5 times the size of your mem, formatted to fat32. Also check the mem speed is concurrent with the higher end of your MB capabilities. Also check mem timings if your MB/bios can edit those. You want your cpu resonating with your mem, (i.e. dual channel - 1066 MHz mem with Core 2 Duo 1066 MHz FSB [Front Side Bus]) - this will give you one of the best speeds with out much tinkering. Also you will want to use SATA hard drives with 3G/s transfer rate. You may have to get a SATA controler card for that if you MB dosn't have SATA ports.

Also if you are intending to run higher end programs such as games, you will want at least 1Gb of mem and plenty of free space on the hard drive for the swap file partition.

First of all, keep your computer cleaned out. Every time you sign off of the internet, make sure you clean out all Temporary Internet Files, History, etc. . . . Also do a disk cleanup. (if you need help doing all this, send me a message). . . . . Also, once or twice a week run your Disk Defragmentor. I do all these 2-3 times every day. I've also put a 256MB RAM in my computer. It had 512 already. Go to wal-mart and buy you a Chill Mat. It will cost about 25.00, but well worth it.
