My pc is telling me that one of my usb ports is no longer functioning properly. I'm just wondering if (a) it can b fixed and (b) would it be very expensive to have it repaired? I live in Ireland and I'd appreciate any help from someone who knows. Thanks

a) probably but it will cost just to find out if it can or cant

b)if it can then probably

Cheapest solution

If you need more ports than you are left with then buy a usb hub (make sure its usb2 , DO NOT GET usb1.1, ignore any claims to it being fast (cos fast it relative), if it dont state its usb2 then ignore it) and connect to one of the remaining ports.

should be able to get a 4 port powered hub around £15 inc postage or a 7 port for a bit more (dont know what that is in euros) on e-bay. Its best if you get a powered hub cos you can run anything from it, most of the cheaper hubs are unpowered. A powered hub comes with its own power supply, to power any device connected to it that needs it e.g a usb stick

The power supply is only to power devices plugged in, not the hub itself, (the hub gets its power from the pc), and it dont matter if you connect devices that have their own power (e.g external HD) cos these dont use the power pins in the usb plug

A pc generally has 2 or 4 USB ports. N most of the time we don't use all of them. It's rare that USB port get corrupt. It may be the operating system of pc Which has the problem. Try restoring computer to back date when the pc and USB ports were working fine.

Although u can buy a Device which can multiply your single USB port, eBay it should not be expensive as compared to repairing of your corrupt USB port.

Oh costly some classes. an exterior perplexingchronic is of two kinds powered or no longer powered powered use their very own supply, and could reason sparks if linked whilst the two computer andchronic are switched ON and could harm the two or the two gadgets irrepairably. shop on with the producer policies which will clarify what order you may desire to do it in. Non powered drives desire their potential from a Y formed double USB socket cable. those could Overload a USB port if no longer plugged in heavily. each and each USB socket can provide 0.5 amps max. achronic needs a million.0amps to start, so could desire to be linked to 2 ports to potential it. so be careful how they are plugged in.

Mainly there are 2 usb port in a local pc,if the two ports are not working then u must go to the rervice center and repair it,,, ,and if one of these is working, then u can use a usb hub,it's avaible also 1,2,3,4,5 ports...

If you are not computer savey than it will be difficult (if the USB port is sodered to the motherboard. What I would recommend that you do is just buy an external USB hub and plug that hub into a working port. This would be a cheap fix. A 5 port hub should cost you less than $10USD.
